A feminist and gay-rights activist known for participating in heated conversations was appointed to a minor role involving interacting with fans. Some supporters of the game are throwing a hissy fit. well has she said or done anything outlandish while interacting with fans in said game role capacity because if not why does it matter? im confused Nope. People say they're angry because they were promised a team of veterans, and she's starting to list herself as something other than a low ranking RP person. It's more likely just backlash because of her political views.

I just wanna say some stuff that I have noticed about this for the last few days. First, in no way shape or form is this actually about her being a woman or really pushing her agenda on the game. I know that the narrative will go that way and yes there are those who will be idiots and say very bad things and they do need to be stopped. Second, what this really is about is how Dina has handled the situation. Being the community manager means that she is the person who is to take the voice of the fandom and community and represent them to the people in charge. This being a game that is a spiritual successor to one of the most beloved franchises that right now is dead to Capcom and being made on the fans money, there should be a strong communication between them in this particular situation. Now with Dina the problem with her is a list of things. The biggest to some is that even though she is in this position, she is in no way a Mega Man fan nor has she played any of the games, which she admitted to on her Twitter. To some of the people on the forums this seemed like a problem, again because this is a position that is to express things between the fans and developers. So with her being an admitted non fan this was seen has an issue. Now where things start to go wrong is how she handled this. Some of the community started asking her questions about her position and how she being a non fan got it. She then revealed that her boyfriend got her the job, again an issue to the people. When they started to ask more questions or tried to have civil conversations she started to delete posts and even ban accounts from the forums. I would like to stress that none of these people initially were being nasty or hateful, just civil.
Her job is to communicate with these people and so far has gone out of her way to avoid any questions and censor posts bringing any of this up. Another to add is that even though she is only a community manager she also had a post on her Twitter saying she was also designing things. Now this could either be an official title or her just drawing things and submitting them to the higher ups but alas we don't know because any one who asks is banned or ignored.
The reason I want to tell you all this is because you guys are an excellent board and very nice. I know some will spin this as misogyny or female hate but in reality it is nothing to do with that. Just in how she has handled the situation, at least initially. I thank you for your time.

Just in how she has handled the situation, at least initially. I thank you for your time. Yeah, this is more or less what I had heard about the subject. In short, it's worrisome and it's namely on how Dina's handled things that make it somewhat understandable how some have responded. Naturally there are those that have gone further than needed or reacted because of unjustifiable reasoning. But things like her potentially having a part in the design process, her meaning to be the voice between the creators & the fans, her rampant abuse of power on the boards, her getting her job through her bf and her shutting down her Twitter to delete everything before re-opening it once people started questioning her...yeah, it's all a little troublesome. All the more so when you factor in that she is not a fan. Another curious tidbit to this story is that on the comments section she suggested that Beck should be made into a female character. Nothing necessarily wrong with that. However she went about said suggestion under false pretenses, claiming to be just a fan/supporter with no ties to the project. When in reality it would come to light later she was, in fact, staff all along. Something she's confessed she lied about. Again, questionable but nothing completely condemnable until you start to think of why she'd use false pretenses to make that comment. And, again, it is another small chunk of this odd story that's worrisome. Has this made me regret giving money to the project? No. Am I upset? No. Am I a little concerned someone like this that has made a series of questionable actions is potentially involved in the project in a considerable way and has been lashing out & creating discord in a once happy community on there? Yes.

Yes. I am not myself a Mega Man fan nor have I donated any money to the project, but I just want the facts to be presented to people and the truth heard, where instead this will can and will be turned into commentary on the boys club of gaming and that to me is a real shame and why I personally don't like the so called SJW's. Fighting for more female roles in games is good but going so far to ignore any wrong doing on the part of a person to get it is wrong. Also like I said this a game funded by this people and do have some right to have a voice in it.

I have nothing to contribute apart from the fact I find it hilarious that the person complaining about someone advocating LGBT rights has the surname Bickerdyke.

I love how the article backhandedly implies that Kickstarter is to blame for people being assholes. It reminds me of how some people like to think Facebook is for some reason directly responsible for their users who make insulting posts.
With that said, if it is indeed true that Abou Karam is trying to politicize the game, then I can see it being a legitimate issue, especially if the person in question is in charge of PR and is therefore the voice of the company. If not... that's just stupid. But frankly, I find it rather silly to begin with considering her position does not give her any influence on the development of the game so asking for a refund over this doesn't make much sense either way. On the other hand, I find jumping to the conclusion that people who have a problem with her MUST be sexist and there's nothing else to it is equally counter-productive.

A community manager has as much power to affect game development as the janitors in the office do. People keep complaining that she's not doing a good job, and that's fine to have a problem with. But the majority of this screaming is about how she's a radical feminist who's gonna change everything about the game in the name of Sarkeesian, which is f***ing stupid. It's like people think that she's the only person who works there, and that if she says "Hey I think the fans really want a female Beck" that no other devs are on the forums and they're just gonna take her word as law.

But there are people pushing agendas in the game industry already. And they are actually in some form of power. Such as Rhianna Pratchett who has written the stories for games like Heavenly Sword, Mirror's Edge, and the Tomb Raider reboot.
