Yes and quite honestly, it can't come soon enough. Unfortunately, Ric Flair has become a very sad shell of his former self. He had his time in the 80s and 90s as champion. John Cena deserves to surpass him anyway.
And also, multiple reigns have ALWAYS been overrated anyhow. Bruno kept the belt for nearly 8 years straight. Now that's a reign worth talking about.

Kayfabe wise, Bruno's ONE reign is more impressive anyway if you think about it.
Edit: haha, same thought process minutes apart.

You do a Bruno type reign nowadays, mass riots would occur. People got restless with CM Punk going over a year. Imagine Cena going on a 4 year, uninterrupted reign?

Bruno never had to wrestle guys like Ryback in TLC matches on free TV week in week out.
One Punk Cena 6 month reign is like 20 years in Bruno's time.

And I completely understand and appreciate that. It's just hilarious when people demonize WWE and/or Cena for so many reigns when it's obviously not the 70s, 80s or 90s anymore. We're in the new millennium, TV is a different medium and WWE is a wrestling monopoly. And yet, amazingly, some people still expect Flair's records to hold up forever.

I think he is bigger than the belt at this point already. He is but his ego needs to have the title around him to show that he is. Its like if he doesn't have the belt he whines and bitches about it and then when he gets it back he makes himself bigger than the title or even bigger than the WWE. Cena does not have an ego. He is probably the most humble top star WWE has ever had, except for maybe The Rock *spits loogie*.

A lot of people like to romanticize the past. I don't wish to go back to the days of year long reigns nor rapid fire title changes. As long as it's meaningful, I don't care how long that reign goes or how many times someone wins a title.

There's a more important question to ask: In what way does Cena NOT deserve to break Flair's record?
Taking into account not just the money he's drawn, but all of the classic matches he's got on his resume, the way he's served as the public face of not just the company but wrestling as a whole in the wake of the Benoit fiasco, and just his skillset in general, would it be a great crime if he did?
Of course he doesn't need to pass Flair at all, his legacy's fine without that. But you gotta admit he's the only active guy right now that's earned it.

Honestly who cares? Length of reign is what really matters. He's not going to pass Flair in that regard.
Not to mention the nature of the business is different than it was back in the day

If anyone's gonna break the record, it should be Cena. The man's been an absolute workhorse for pretty much his entire WWE career, is a consummate professional, and hasn't let his fame get to his head.

I fully expect an angle between Triple H and Cena over who breaks it first. Overcoming the odds, intentional losses, it'll be wonderful.

I'd say Cena "deserves" it, but HHH's ego and his idol worship of Flair won't allow it happen.

Also it really should be noted that at this point Cena is a transitional champ most of the time. It isn't about his reigns anymore it's about who rises up to beat him and he's got the best record on that moment in someone's career since Hogan and Flair were in their heydays.

Ric Flair has been so irritating for so many years now that I don't even want him to hold the record anymore.
Plus I've got to represent for my generation of wrestling against all you old people on here.
