However you feel about the issue, it's clear that the Robertson family didn't back down. A&E did. www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/a-e-welcomes-phil-robertson-667647An A&E statement to The Hollywood Reporter read: As a global media content company, A+E Networks' core values are centered around creativity, inclusion and mutual respect. We believe it is a privilege for our brands to be invited into people’s home and we operate with a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to these principals.
That is why we reacted so quickly and strongly to a recent interview with Phil Robertson. While Phil’s comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs, and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the “coarse language” he used and the mis-interpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article. He also made it clear he would “never incite or encourage hate.” We at A+E Networks expressed our disappointment with his statements in the article, and reiterate that they are not views we hold.
But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man's views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family… a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E Networks also feel strongly about.
So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.
We will also use this moment to launch a national public service campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company, and the values found in Duck Dynasty. These PSAs will air across our entire portfolio.

Why wouldn't they? It's one of the highest grossing and most watched cable television shows of all time. When other networks came out and said they'd gladly pick up Duck Dynasty, and A&E realized nobody cares about any of their other shows...

Also has anyone pointed out that he was suspended from filming. But their new season starts in January... so more than likely they aren't filming at the moment. How much do you want to guess that by the time the new season starts filming his suspension will be over? Hey, I was right.

As McMahon says "It's all about the mon-ay"
I miss the A & E of old with pre 1998 Law & Order reruns, American Justice with Bill Kurtis and the Paul Winfield narrated City Confidential and a few years before that, Murder, She Wrote and Night Court.
For as far as American is said to have come, the country has not come very far at all.
I find Maria Bello's coming out online to be the most heartwarming story of the year 2013. I hope she gets as much positive attention Robertson has gotten from his "fan base."

So there's no punishment for his statements. Good to know.

Oh, I'm not deriding them for it, just saying it's pretty obvious; and as you say the smart decision financially.

I miss the A&E of even older with actual Arts and Entertainment. First place I ever saw a production of Swan Lake, and now they're peddling Duck Dynasty.

Oh, I'm not deriding them for it, just saying it's pretty obvious; and as you say the smart decision financially. It really did boil down to a corporation deciding "which part of our audience for this time slot is bigger". Figure this, you've got people who will turn the show off if Phil is removed, and the network loses money. Or, you keep him on there, the audience that buys the gear sticks around, and you probably get maybe 1 or 2 in 10 who are angry at the results but will tune in out of ironic rage or some such. Personally, I think A&E had every right to say "You know, we don't agree with what you said and, since we give you the platform, as a business we can take it away from you". Makes sense, and I happen to think Phil is wrong in his statements, but either decision the network made would be based entirely on "how much money will this cost us".

Man...I was hoping this would lead to Shipping Wars getting Duck Dynasty's push. It would be great if this was ALL Phil Robertson talked about on the new episodes. Just really take the opportunity to ram his beliefs down A&E's throat. {Spoiler} A&E being female in this case.

Whatevs, I can go back to ignoring the show's existence and enjoying that I still have no idea what the plot or point of the show is.

Whatevs, I can go back to ignoring the show's existence and enjoying that I still have no idea what the plot or point of the show is. The Daily Show taught me that Duck Dynasty is sadly not in fact a show about ducks reenacting the show Dynasty. So I don't care what the plot is. Basically I shall join you.

Yeah, because that'll make an impact on people's views on homosexuals...
We're doing great, folks. We got the guy from Duck Dynasty. We're halfway there!
What he said was dumb, but so is the backlash.
There was never a threat of that lucrative show going off the air (unfortunately), so they burn him to save face and we're back to everyone pretending to be happy so long as nobody says anything.

What he said was dumb, but so is the backlash. No. He compared homosexuality to bestiality and basically said the Jim Crow laws were a-okay. I'd say the backlash against him was warranted. An ignorant asshole like him and his horrible family shouldn't have a show, period. You shouldn't be rewarded for spewing hate speech.

I feel you...but who takes their moral cues from the freaking guy from Duck Dynasty? You can take him off the air, but he's still going to feel the way he does. Brushing him under the rug changes absolutely nothing.

Brushing him under the rug changes absolutely nothing. It doesn't change the way he feels, no. However, taking the show off the air also sends a message that saying horrible crap like he said won't be tolerated. A&E is basically excusing what he did because he and his family make the channel a lot of money. Which, they're a business, I can kinda/sorta understand that. But the thing is, this show is just a fad. A year (or maybe less from now) everyone will move on to something else. Sure the people who bow at this moron's ignorant feet will be upset, but they'll get over it once 'Billy Bob's Deep Creek Crawfish Wranglers" or whatever similar dumbass show comes along to pacify them.
