It's not that he has an unpopular opinion, it's that he has the "wrong" unpopular opinion. He's 67 years old and for the large part has lived a life where their were preconceived thoughts on certain matters. I can't fault someone for not having a gold star understanding of a lifestyle outside of anything they're really accustomed todealing with in their world. Sure nobody here seems to agree with ha feelings on the matter, but none of us were raised in a backwoods swamp. I'd wager if we did our beliefs would be more in line with his. Were all ignorant of certain things.

I shouldn't have gotten on Twitter. It really irritates me when I see so many people completely misunderstand 'free speech' and the 'First Amendment.' The First Amendment only protects you from being arrested, it doesn't protect you from being told to f*** off. In a nut shell.

I mean, as an owner of a vagina, I'm certainly partial to saying it's more attractive than someone's anus. He said more than that, though, and it was that other part that was judgmental of others. Re: poor blacks and whites working together, sure. On an individual level, people can choose to find happiness in any situation. That doesn't mean they're not being oppressed. I'm sorry, but after your first sentence, I lost all train of thought. *someone slaps him.* I deserved that.

Apparently some people think it protects you from public criticism, suspensions from work, or from firings. If it did, you could publicly bash and embarrass the company you work for or your boss or co-workers and the company would be powerless to reprimand you.

Vaginas ARE more appealing.
I'm a lot more shallow when it comes to men. I'll only settle for a man's anus if the guy is hot.

I just think it's ridiculous. We seem to be holding reality TV stars to a higher standard than politicians who say the same or worse (which because of the politics rule I won't go further than that). Hell, we are holding this reality star to a higher standard than Sean Penn, a genuinely awful person (to put it mildly). People (obviously not all) complaining about this guy's comments happily handed over money to watch Penn portray Harvey Milk. Slappy, you are correct that there is a hypocrisy within society. I can locate a number of terrible stories. Ones about violence, murder, animal cruelty, human trafficking, sweatshops. terrorism, stories full of legit evil on a near daily basis, and that won't get near the outrage that this story about a dumbass flapping his lips will get. The blame for this, I believe lies squarely with the sensationalist, ratings driven media. Maybe I missed it (search function isn't the best) but was there a thread here about the Russian actor who said to burn gay people alive in ovens?

I don't quite understand how Duck Dynasty became a thing...
My great great grandma had some stories from the south around that same time... They were not happy tales.
Has he looked at a man's anus to make an informed decision on the matter? I just can't take his words seriously if he hasn't done the research.

I really don't care about this. That show is still hilarious; he's the least funny guy on there. This is how old people think.

I'm all for stopping the anti-Southern sentiment here, as long as it extends to Florida. I'm not from there but this forum has had a lot of anti-Florida sentiment due to threads about crazy news stories there.

Now who will Wal Mart sell posters of? I'm the department manager of my Wal-Mart's sporting goods section and I for one shall not mourn their potential downfall.

I think we're keeping it fairly civil so far. That's what blows my mind. Everywhere else I see this, it's a real donnybrook about religious stuff. I'm quite impressed honestly. .......The crap's a DONNYBROOK?!?!??!!

Be careful, though; you're comparing apples and oranges. In an ideal world, I think all politicians would be held to insanely high standards on issues like this; however, politicians are responsible to their constituents. If a congressperson, for example, said something this ignorant, it would be in the hands of the voters in his/her district or state to decide his/her fate (the rest of Congress, meanwhile, may condemn what the congressperson said or censure them, but that's about the extent of what they can do). As for Penn, he could certainly be subject to boycotts, as well; that's up to the general public. But he's not a TV actor with a hit show on cable, hence him saying something one might consider awful doesn't wind up reflecting on an entire channel; that's baggage that most movie actors don't have to carry, fair or not. I'm pretty sure Penn torturing Madonna is worse than a few misguided comments. Honestly, this guys comments aren't even that bad in comparison to some of the shit that gets said by public figures daily. Can you please provide at least three examples of such commonplace comments that would make defending Jim Crow and equating homosexuals with animal rapists and terrorists pale in comparison?

I don't know, but I really hope not... I mean if we are getting outraged over these comments, that actors comments were much worse. Those comments were from a Tila Tequila-esqe attention-starved troll, not the star of the highest rated show on cable television. There's a difference.

In all honesty I couldn't care less what his views on gay people are. If this gets stores to start yanking Duck Dynasty merchandise so I don't have to see it EVERYWHERE, then it is aces by me.
