So with Jay Leno's tenure as host The Tonight Show ending ( Again)in February he will become a free agent and thus several networks will be trying to acquire his services (I ain't a fan, but the dude flat out brings in ratings!). Oddly enough one of these potential suitors could be CNN, which is currently run by Jeff Zucker (and is owned by the same parent company that owns Conan O'Brien's current home TBS). Oddly enough NBC-Universals entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt was quoted as saying "Nothing would make me happier than to find ways to keep him involved with this network. That's really up to him." Which is funny that NBC keeps saying how much they want Jay Leno in the fold, yet they keep firing him from his job. www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/jay-lenos-post-tonight-show-666206?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+thr%2Fnews+%28The+Hollywood+Reporter+-+Top+Stories%29

Cant see how a comedian would fit CNN. Maybe they could have a more irreverent late night show (similar to Red Eye on Fox News), but thats about it (and it would be REALLY strange to see such a show with a news ticker on the botttom).

First off, I don't hate Leno, as cool as it is to rip on him nowadays. I'll always prefer Conan or Jon Stewart, but I think Leno does pretty good work, and must be doing something right to continue to thrive with the Tonight Show, whereas Conan unfortunately didn't do as good. Call it anything you want, but the network is to blame there. Nonetheless, there still seems to be a seething hate towards the guy.
That being said...I assume they're talking about a Larry King type of role? If that's the case...no thanks. He's a tame comedian for the most part, but he can still be funny...however I've never found him to be a very good interviewer. The way he asks questions, it almost always sounds like he's gossiping for info, instead of having a conversation. Maybe it's the way the production is rushed, but it doesn't seem very pleasant. They should really get a respected journalist to fill the role if that's what they're looking for.

Jay Leno really connects with so-called Middle America and the average Joe. To many, he is very likeable. I think he'd be a good pick-up for a number of networks.

I haven't been interested in anything Leno did since he had David Freese as a guest. And since Freese is now in Anaheim with that other traitor, it won't matter now if he ever invites him back.
In all seriousness, I can only see him doing a fluffy entertainment show or something. Nothing Larry King/Anderson Cooper esque.

Considering how much of Leno's jokes have a punchline involving the word "congress," this doesn't surprise me.
Has anyone ever caught Leno's stand-up live? I'm really curious as to what he's like away from the restrictions of network TV, especially considering how cutting edge his style was in the 80s and the fact that he's never stopped doing it on the side.

Doug Stanhope tells a story about a friend of his who went up to do a set. He gets on stage and he's bombing, badly. No one is laughing at anything at all. He keeps going on and going and they're wondering what the hell he is doing. After about a 10 minute, laugh free set, he goes, "Every last joke I did was from Jay Leno's monologue on the Tonight Show last night. I just wanted you to hear how it sounds away from all that TV bullshit." I dunno, I know before he got the show, he was apparently very, very funny and well respected and after he got the show lost a ton of respect amoung comedians, chief among them since he put it on record, Bill Hicks.

Well yeah, that's why I'm curious about his stand-up outside of the Tonight Show. His monologues are a team of writers, his stand-up I believe is just him. I'm curious what unfiltered Leno sounds like.

Leno on the Tonight Show catering to the older mainstream audience and Conan on Late Night for the younger niche/offbeat humour audience was the best arrangement NBC had. Everyone involved should have just settled for that.
