I still want to know who had the idea that the world needed Christmas themed horror movies. From Silent Night Deadly Night to Santa's Slay, we have been inundated with cinematic efforts to turn the holly jolly season into slaughter season. And the craziest part to me is that we still have yet to get the Christmas horror movie featuring Krampus as the monster who shows us what happens when you are naughty all year round. Anyone got a favorite?

Santa's Slay, pleasant memories of doing a writeup for the old Sports: Rassle? site.

"Silent Night Deadly Night" is the best one IMO

Rare Exports.
It was on Netflix a while back - one of the most clever horror movies I've ever seen.
Basic summary: a town that survives mostly because of its annual export of reindeer meat suddenly sees all the reindeer getting slaughtered. At the same time, an expedition on a nearby mountain has uncovered something huge in a block of ice. And then an old man in a Santa suit shows up.

The original version of Black Christmas with Margot Kidder and Olivia Hussey is a pretty damn good flick. And if you want a review of the craptacular remake, check out the FAN Horror Thread (/shameless plug).

I hate them. Don't really understand the desire to make loving happy Christmas characters into horror characters, especially when there's plenty of evil characters who already exist in Christmas lore.
I think a movie about the Krampus would have potential to be FAR more interesting and scary and unique than another millionth edition of "Hey, Santa Claus is actually evil!" thing.

Gremlins is absolutely awesome. I would count that as a Christmas horror movie.

I own that on dvd, was a bit disappointed with it when I saw it.

I hate them. Don't really understand the desire to make loving happy Christmas characters into horror characters, especially when there's plenty of evil characters who already exist in Christmas lore. While I mostly agree with this, there's one movie that I think offers an interesting enough take on Christmas and horror/thriller that actually nails the spirit of Christmas. It's been mentioned in this thread. It's called Christmas Evil. Also known as You Better Watch Out and Terror in Toyland, it's essentially if "Dexter" was Christmas themed and didn't become totally disappointing. Without spoiling anything, it's about a guy who is obsessed with Christmas and Santa to the point where, when he is tricked into working late during the holidays, absolutely snaps and begins thinking he IS Santa. As a result, he begins going around town dressed as Santa, delivering toys and gifts to the less fortunate, as well as killing all those who have been truly evil. It's not one of those movies that perverts the troupes of Christmas, but rather celebrates them as even the darker moments have an un-ironic feeling of whimsy that's never reached by other holiday horror films' lazy writing. So yeah, give Christmas Evil a shot. Just avoid the "official trailer" on YouTube. It's not an actual trailer, somebody just cut together all the kill scenes and spoils the ending over unfitting music that has nothing to do with the film.
