![](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/af/WWE_world_title_lineage.jpeg) Now I've always assumed, apart from being very similar physical belts, the WCW title and the WHC were completely separate titles.

WWE themselves said that the WCW and WHC title held the same lineage right before the title was unified so I guess that's the final verdict.

The WHC title linage is whatever is convenient for the WWE at that moment. WWE.com lists Triple H as the first champion but WWE's WHC DVD and the build up to Orton/Cena claimed longer histories.

In reality: The WHC was a splinter title off the WWE Title (which was founded as a splinter title from the NWA). The only thing that the WHC has in common with the NWA/WCW title is that it's "same" belt design.
