Since he announced he resigned from TNA today this got me thinking about his popularity. Perhaps if he never burned his bridge with WWE something like this would trend on Twitter. As it is Jeff's announcement seems to have gotten very little attention even from the wrestlign community.
So let's say Jeff didn't burn his bridge with the WWE. Maybe he still leaves for WCW, but not on such bad terms. How do you see his career panning out and could his legacy be greater than what it is now?

The only person he left on bad terms with is JR who has no one to blame but himself for for Jarrett's contract coming up, not caring enough to fix that and then being forced to pay out everything Jeff was owed that night. On top of that, even if there was bad blood between him and Vince, as the past has shown, there is nothing short of murder that would stop Vince from making up and working with someone again. Now JR is gone but Jarrett is still part owner of TNA so him going back to WWE seems unlikely.
As far as his career, nothing would have changed most likely. Jeff and JR never got along and seeing as how JR was in power, there was no reason for Jeff to even try and return to WWE after WCW folded. Maybe he's looked upon with more favor in some history pieces but most likely his TNA would have prevented that.

Also, didn't Vince explicitally say he'd never hire Jarrett again, the night after the WCW buyout? I recall he was the only person who was really buried by Vince.

.....and yet Vince and the WWE sent flowers and condolences to Jarrett when his wife died, so anything can happen I reckon.

JJ did not do anything wrong outside of want more money to put over a female in a match that would only hurt his credibility going into the rival promotion, plus he was actually quite over in the WWF leaving (his sexist gimmick was over with the crowd and was almost a de facto face in the feud). JR pretty much intentionally let his contract run out so he would not have to wrestle Austin |

Jeff claims that they were actually cordial in their discussion of that payoff, that he was only really looking for backdated pay (merch etc) and that he got stock options when the WWE's IPO happened later that week. Wrap your head around the fact that Jarrett, who "never drew a dime", technically is a part owner of both WWE and TNA

Double J was great in the wwf, he basically worked well in every role they tried him in. Just in WCW they tried to make him "the" guy in a competitive era. A good heel, a really good wrestler, maybe suited for *A* title run somewhere, but never the guy to carry a company.

Honestly, I think he would be hired as a road agent or trainer role. Vince & Jarrett's relationship eased after the death of his wife.

Honestly, I really don't buy that there was ever that much bad blood between Jarrett and Vince. Given what we know of Vince as a person, the 'burial' he inflicted on Double J really is no worse than what he's done to people we know he likes, people he hates get deleted from history, no mentions, no ribs, ever. Look how often Tom Zenk gets referenced, Wendi Richter while she was on the outs with Vince, they gave Orton the title purely to remove Lesnar from the record books and so on.
The only person with genuine bad blood with JJ seems to be Jim Ross, who is a petty, petty man, I'm sure a lot of the resentment comes from the fact Russo likes him and Stone Cold doesn't, bah gawd.

The good thing about Jarrett is that he's a pretty good mechanic who still has something to give to the wrestling business, whether it is in-ring (short term) or out. Also, something which might surprise you, but the Clique has always been cool with Jarrett, so I'm thinking Triple H likes him.
The bad thing about Jarrett is that he's a pretty good mechanic, but he's a rather forgettable figure. Mike Graham's quotes on him are quite preposterous (especially considering the source... who wasn't an example of being over himself.) but Jarrett was never a main event talent in WWE. He was a solid midcarder, perennial IC champ... and then he was a main eventer in the dying WCW and the ace of TNA, which means nothing in the WWE universe. If he were to enter the Royal Rumble, I fear an embarassingly soft reception.

Of course HHH would like him, they're the cut from they same cloth, an upper midcarder who should have been a transitional champion at best that used their backstage influence to make sure they're booked to dominate all comers. As for Jeff Jarrett getting a soft reception, I dunno, D'Lo Brown got a pretty good pop during his return a few years ago so you never can tell. |

I think Vince and Jeff sorted things out a few years back.
Also the Mcmahons and the Jarretts have goptten on well in the past, during the steroid trial in the early 90s the plan was for Jeff's dad (whose USWA had a working deal with the WWF and sort of functioned a bit like developmenetal) to take over running the WWF if Vince ended up in Jail
