It seems like a double standard, so a heel authority figure says that a superstar has to earn a title match and all that, which is fine because he's a heel and the provokes the reaction intended but when a babyface does it and on an occasion even takes the heels title away the fans cheer, now that's all good but if I go into heel mark mode for the moment, in the terms of the storyline the heel has worked just as hard to get it as a babyface right?
He's won the matches and shown a desire to win the championship and yet the GM still threatens to strip them of the title, what gives some guy who sits in the back and does f*** all the right to threaten to take away someone's championship, like Teddy Long in Smackdown vs. Raw 2006, he was drunk with power and clearly ignored professionalism and made things personal, intentionally trying to have the person you're playing as beaten up and destroyed, which would be alright I guess for a heel because heels are meant to do dickish things but T'lo was meant to be a babyface and he was acting just like a heel.
Why can't we just have one wrestler who just says to a babyface authority figure "Screw You, I've worked hard for my championship and I'm going to do things on my terms"

That's why, in spite of all his flaws, I liked Teddy Long. He called down the middle most times

Authority figures have no place in story lines.
Just because it worked once with Austin/McMahon doesn't mean that you need to retread the same tired stuff and waste heat on a non-performer time and time again.

Mick Foley was a fantastic authority figure. He was a storyline facilitator, wasn't generic, and he genuinely added to whatever he was involved with rather than stealing time.

There's no hard and set rule with authority figures; like almost anything else in wrestling, whether or not they work is all in the execution.
However, I'm fully of the mind that, in the majority of cases, authority figures work best when they're used as they were in ye olden dayes: sparingly, neutral in terms of face/heel alignment, and making their presence known as a way to tell fans "pay attention, what's about to happen is important".
