It's a great flick that I'll watch every few years, and still holds up. Maybe shouldn't have beaten out Shawshank or Pulp Fiction, but the argument can be made for any of the three. It's amazing that these three movies came out in the same year as each other (along with Clerks), '94 was a hell of a year for film (and stupid old me was only 11 at the time so I had to discover a lot of these years later. Thank you home video releases, you're a life saver!). I always thought Shawshank was atleast a decade older than it actually is. Don't know why. Maybe because it's revered as such a classic that it should be even more established in American film history than it already is. I love the Abby Hoffman seen (him hugging "Brother Gump" after practically no one else hear him speak at the peace rally is hilarious) and I rediscovered the scene in which he inspires the lyrics to "Imagine" when he's on The Dick Cavett Show with John Lennon also on the panel.

I just found out his KKK Grandfather was a real guy. I just assumed they made up a character name and who'd know? Nope, that was an actual guy.
Great film. The more you learn about history the more there is discover in the movie.

I hate the haters of this.Classic f***in' movie. I don't hate the movie. Even though I am accused of being a Hater. But it was a great movie that came out in a year FILLED with Great to Amazing movies. I mean, apart from the shadow of Boom mic every time it cuts to the bus stop. But, that doesn't really detract from the movie. Wasn't calling you out specifically or anything,I just don't get how it seems suddenly a lot of people(film snobs in particular)are starting to talk shit about it,when I didn't hear a negative thing about it in all the years prior.

There is a lot to mock there, honestly, if you are looking at it objectively. I think that has to do Zemeckis more than anything else. I mean, there is a bit of magical realism with Forrest Gump. I mean, it got all the accolades because it is kind of a sappy story (it does have a happy ending, sort of). That said, I like it, I'll watch it. But on further review, it just isn't the best movie of that year. It does beat it's two most common competitors (Pulp Fiction, and Shawshank) rather handily.

I absolutely love Forrest Gump. Sure it's a bit on the cheesy side, but I love it. Man, 1994 was a great year for movies!

Gary Sinise made that movie an iconic piece of work.

Not as good as Pulp Fiction or Shawshank or Lion King (which really should have had Four Wedding's nomination slot), but it's fun. It's a fairly smart film, which makes up for its cheesiness.

Legit one of the best movies I've ever seen. What did you guys think about it? Good movie. It was released the same year as The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction, which are two of the very best of the 1990s. Even though Forrest Gump won Best Picture and is a beloved movie, I think history will remember Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption as the two best films of that year (perhaps the two best of the 1990s).

I love that movie and because of it I couldn't watch CSI: NY without thinking that Dan went on to solve crimes

I don't know that you can hold the magical saccharine aspects against it though, since it was pretty clearly a fairy tale of sorts. I mean, yeah you're right, it had sappy, magical elements, but that was the story they were telling.

Great movie, much better than the book as well (which was good, but impossible to make a serious movie out of, considering its got stuff like Forrest wrestling and Forrest going into space with an gorilla, no really).

I still like it. I always use Jenny as an example of a tragic character for my English class.

The book is a lot different than the movie. It is one of the few movies that I enjoyed more than the book.

A lot of people can't seem to refer to it anymore without referring to 2 other really good movies that it beat out. Honestly, it was the first of the 3 that I watched and just have to live with the fact that it came out during a VERY good year for movies. I also think I prefer it over Pulp Fiction after seeing Mystery Train. Give props where props are do, Quentin!
That said, I love this movie. It's a guilty pleasure. What I love more, is the fact that the author of the book hated it. But you know what I hated? The f***in' book. What a waste of time. The book felt more like a Rain Man character as opposed to someone who is practically the exact opposite onscreen, I think Zemeckis made the right call in making the character not as annoying as it would have been, if it was faithful to the book. Still, Lt. Dan kicks ass.
I want to watch a zany sitcom where Forrest and Lt. Dan live together, and crazy antics happen.

Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich.
That- that's about it.
