I doubt it would happen (especially with all the hot potatoing the belt has had this year), but if it were to happen how would you book Orton's PPV matches over the next year?
Here is the currently scheduled 2014 PPV line up for those who need a template:
Royal Rumble Elimination Chamber Wrestlemania Extreme Rules Payback Money in the Bank SummerSlam Night of Champions Battleground Hell in a Cell Survivor Series TLC

Actually, I believe they 2014 schedule is dropping the two October PPVs and adding another one back to the summer.
Royal Rumble: Cena Elimination Chamber: Enters last, picks off the stragglers Wrestlemania: CM Punk Extreme Rules: CM Punk, street fight Payback: Punk/Bryan Triple Threat TBD: Bryan Money in the Bank: Roman Reigns (screwed over by jealous Ambrose) SummerSlam: Batista (Dave's swan song, gets punted) Night of Champions: Cena/Bryan/Punk/Big E. Langston/Reigns, Six Pack Challenge Hell in a Cell: Big E. Langston Survivor Series: Triple H (Orton turns face beforehand) TLC: Sheamus (heel, wins clean)

Royal Rumble - vs Cena Elimination Chamber - manages to win via dastardly help from HHH (reminiscent of Cody's failed attempt circa Legacy) Wrestlemania - vs Bryan vs Punk Extreme Rules - vs Punk Payback - vs Bryan Money in the Bank - throw away match against someone who wasn't even in the picture, e.g Big Show SummerSlam - vs Batista Night of Champions - vs Batista again Battleground - vs Reigns, Ambrose interferes Hell in a Cell - vs Ambrose, with a ill-fated cash-in by the MitB winner Survivor Series - vs HHH TLC - ladder match, HHH vs Bryan vs Cena vs Punk vs Batista
Gosh, that's awful. Why have I even written that?

First and foremost, the face who finally takes the belt off Orton needs to be built up early and built up properly. I'm not suggesting a year-long winning streak, but he can't lose every match until November and then be passed off as the last great hope. He just needs to look like a credible threat to the title.
For the Rumble, I'd have him beat Cena again.
At EC, Cena loses to the Rumble winner(we'll say Batista, since it's a fresh match for WrestleMania), while Orton defends against Punk, Bryan, Sandow, Henry, and Del Rio. The Authority screw over Punk and Bryan en route to an Orton win.
At WrestleMania, Orton retains against Batista, while Punk beats Triple H and Michaels beats Bryan.
Extreme Rules: Orton faces Punk in a Falls Count Anywhere match and gets the win.
Payback: Orton/Punk again, this time in a Last Man Standing match, ending with both men being knocked out. Also on the show, Cody and Goldust drop the Tag Team Titles to The Real Americans.
Money in the Bank: Orton and Punk have their blow-off match, inside a cage, Orton wins. Money in the Bank is made up of former winners, with Bryan beating Cena, Kane, Ziggler, Sandow, Del Rio, and Miz. Cody and Goldust lose a rematch to the All Americans.
Leading into SummerSlam, Ziggler wins a battle royal for a title shot, while Punk and Bryan challenge for the tag titles. Cody blames himself for the Rhodes' losing the titles and Goldust challenges him to a match in order to get him to man up.
SummerSlam: Orton retains over Ziggler, Punk and Bryan fail to win the titles from the Real Americans and blame each other, Goldust beats Cody.
At Night of Champions, Orton defends in a six pack Champions Challenge against five former Champions: Cena, Big Show, Batista, Jericho(back the previous month), and Del Rio. Punk and Bryan also have a match, while Cody is still being a sad sack.
Orton retains, but is disqualified on the final fall against Jericho. Bryan beats Punk, Goldust beats Cody again, but this time, Cody attacks his brother on the ramp post-match.
Battleground: Orton beats Jericho in a rematch, while Cena wins a number one contenders match over Batista and Show. Punk beats Bryan in a return match, and Cody pins his brother clean.
Hell in a Cell: Orton beats Cena inside the Cell, while Bryan wins the rubber match with Punk, also in the Cell. Cody faces Jericho and picks up the win.
Survivor Series: Bryan cashes in his Money in the Bank, challenging Orton to one last match. Cody is set to face Punk. Orton retains the title, while Cody beats Punk.
Next night on Raw, Orton talks about how he's beaten everyone there is to beat, leading to Cody challenging him. Orton points out how he beat Cody and got him fired. A TLC match is set for the PPV.
TLC: Cody beats Orton to win the title and is firmly entrenched in the main event.
Now, you could probably take any mid-card face and do that exact same booking, minus the matches with Goldust. I chose Cody because he's someone who I feel is long overdue for a main event run.
