I remember being convinced that he would win the Breakthrough Battle Royal the following night on Raw.

That was pretty awesome. The only thing is when I see something like that and then look at where he is now it makes me a little sad. Sure he's a staple but he seems to be stuck in a bit of a rut, running in place.

I know people say the "STUPID STUPID!" incident killed his push, but I think that's bullshit. If the WWE wanted to push him, they would've. He honestly could've been something, whether he would've succeeded or failed at reaching the finish line will never be known because they stopped the car before entering the final lap.

Was so strange the way they halted his push. The crowd was completely into it.

I wonder how long the list would be if we started listing people with halted pushes. Granted something like a wellness violation is good reason to halt a push but how many guys in even the past five years have seemed poised for a mega push only to have it fizzle out or completely curve into a crash?

"They made him look really good tonight, I just hope they don't pull an MVP and forget about all of this next week." Seems to sum that whole situation up. It really is a shame that he was on the cusp of the main event and then, nope! Get back to the midcard, we got some main eventers that need to fester for a few more years.

I doubt Kofi even remembers that at this point

Probably my biggest disappointment in WWE history. I'm still a huge Kofi fan, but the iron was HOT right here and the WWE failed to get him where he should have been.
Those were a rough few years for midcard guys, though. A lot of feeding people to already established talents, nobody really breaking through as anything beyond the midcard. I feel like if Kofi could get put into a high-profile story like this today it'd turn out much better in the long run.

That and the Boom drop at MSG should have been the making of a future main eventer. But sadly it didn't happen for what ever stupid reason

Kofi is kind of why I handwave folks who are so sure that Big E will breakthrough.
I hope he does, but WWE has a bad track record to say the least.

BRUH, I can't even watch that again knowing what they end up doing with Kofi. It just pisses me off and cements how WWE ultimately ain't about shit.

The way Kofi has just been horribly under-utilized is borderline criminal.
I've never seen the crowd react so well to a guy who has ZERO help from the writing staff. One of their biggest missed opportunities.

That's the thing though, Kofi's record sheet is clean. Never got wellness'd, no reports of him ever doing anything dumb backstage. There was no reason to pull the rug from under him.

Watching that was like that video of Tito Santana pinning the Undertaker. It doesn't feel right watching Kofi cleanly beat two main eventers.

Oh I didn't mean to indicate that Kofi had been Wellnessed. I was just thinking of how many people had pushes that fizzled or were straight up reversed for seemingly no reason. Ending a pugs for a wellness violation is perfectly justifiable. Not sure what happened for Kofi though.
