Following up on remarks I made in the thread about WWE hating the French. I suggested that I think it would be cool to see a foreign heel character who, instead of being a snotty, effeminate French stereotype, is actually a disgruntled revolutionary who hates everyone and everything. Some others seemed to like the suggestion, so I figured I would sort of develop it.
To start with, I think a "disgruntled revolutionary" is actually a much more accurate depiction of the real social/political reality of France than the cartoon image of all French as sissy's and cowards; lest we forget, France is a country where labor strikes are an every day occurrence and that even just recently elected an openly socialist government. And actually that is pretty close to what La Resistance seemed to be when they were still doing their pre-debut promo's, it just devolved from there. I also think that such a character would actually be a good way to update the classic image of the America hating foreign heel for the modern day. In this case its not a character who is evil because he is from another country-its a character who is evil because he acts evil, and who just so happens to be from another country. And its also not a character who is evil because he hates America-he is evil because he hates EVERYTHING, including America.
As for how you portray such a character-he would do all the typical heel shenanigans. He would cheat to win his matches, would trash on his opponents and on the audience, and shill himself as the best thing since sliced bread. But when he trashes on the audience, he would make reference to specific things, such as the audience still cheering Hulk Hogan even though he is a broken down old man who had a hand in destroying one of the biggest wrestling promotions in the world. When he talks himself up he would talk about how he is going to "change the world" and how he will take the industry to places it has never been before. And yeah, he would do some classic anti-America heel things such as degrade Americans as all being fat and lazy while talking up how active and well informed he is. I think it would be a way to take a classic wrestling staple and sort of update it for these more politically correct times. Anyone else got thoughts?
