Actually, upon further thought. It's an 9 in honesty. It has its flaws, but for a character study style episode, it works fine for me. Just shows that they're still good at writing stories that don't need superheroes or character transformations, or other gimmicks.

Rarely post anything from the chans (in fact, I know it's usually frowned upon), but this is a good point  The entire season is a giant advertisement for the upcoming Rainbow Power toy line. When they open the box, they'll all become rainbowfied. |

I don't know what it says when this episode, one that it looked like everyone enjoyed (including myself), is currently on the verge of being rated in the bottom ten of the entire series. Is it just a victim of the series's long-time consistency?
This might be the first time where I look at an episode on my rankings and go, "That should really be higher than it is".

not about to say the series is ruined. This episode was a good character study but something was missing, and I'm not sure what.

Maybe, but that could also be your Rarity bias coming through again. Let's look at this in perspective. I have 68 episodes (counting the two-parters together) on my ranking list that I keep. At this point in time, only THREE are rated under a 7 average, with only two of those widely seen as out-and-out stinkers (Mare Do Well and Owl's Well). The average for the whole series currently sits at 8.15, with each individual season sitting at 8 or above. So, yeah... just because it might end up on the lower end of the scale does not indicate that it's a bad episode by any stretch, or that the majority of people think as such. It just looks that way when it's been so good for so long. *shrug* |
