MLP: FiM Thread 383: 2014: The Year of Rarity

Great episode. It was sweet, had a satisfying ending, and as I think was most important, displayed Rarity's character so perfectly. It shows her that she does genuinely care for people, but her flaw is sometimes she can get overstressed which results in her only thinking of herself. The villain played her part perfectly. Just goes to show that even the mundane ones can do just as good as the insane ones. Though I did like the assistant more than the villain, but it's more due to her design. It was also great seeing the design of Manehattan and how it closely resembled New York. The best part is that they didn't actually rush the ending this time.

There were even a few moments where the show made fun of itself.
-Pinkie saying "I love jumping up and down!"
-They pointed out the show's habit of characters spontaneously bursting into songs.
-"Isn't Friendship Magic!?"

The song was decent. Nowhere near the quality of Art of the Dress or Becoming Popular, but still good.

I'd say the best episode of the season so far. Yes, even more than Bats.

May have a lot to do with Polsky's work. With some exceptions, he's written some of the least beloved.

Of course, we should stress that it's only about halfway through the scoring at this point (we usually end up with about 20-25 scores per episode). Look at how much Daring Don't swung down from the immediate post-airing rush of scores. These could go ANYWHERE.

And what happened to the pony who repented for being a raging bitch to her friends? She got everything she ever wanted.

I gave the episode an 8, not as strong as the previous two weeks but still very good on the whole and somewhat of a nice subversion of the story arc from "Suited for Success." My only minor quibble was that things got a little too Dues Ex at the end with the whole "Oh I might have to leave all of you for a while...oh wait no I don't!" Also this whole talked about but never seen Bridleway costume designer also kind of irked me a little. But other than that still as far a ways from horrible-ville as one can get.

Rewatching the episode. I stand by my 9. I'd agree with the fact that the wrap up of the episode had a few too many deus exes, but what really made this episode work was the dialogue, especially during the scene with Rarity yelling at her friends.


They actually found a way to "fan-f***ing-tastic" on a kid's show
