Dolph Ziggler during the AJ Scandal angle. He had no invested interest in Cena/AJ, and he was basically coming across as a guy butting into their business and picking a fight with John Cena to "get himself over".

Kane during the early Team Hell No days when he was very self-aware of how convoluted his storyline and character had become.

Batista's gimmick when he first turned face, while not exactly meta, was basically that he was the only person aware of wrestling's cliches. Though they ditched that about the time he started trusting Flair again during the Gold Rush tournament.

Daniel Bryan's exit interview on NXT, where he acknowledged that "Daniel Bryan" was a guy who couldn't win a match, but that "Bryan Danielson" was someone to look out for.

And we never saw Bryan Danielson again. Yeah, that was an odd segment. I don't know if he was told to go improvise something, or if a storyline got dropped with Tie-gate, but yeah... Good promo though.

I don't think WWE should overdo "meta" too often. I mean, if the characters aren't immersed in the fictional world created, how can we be?

hate to be that guy, but what do you mean by "meta" Awareness of the cliches and tropes in a work. Best example is John Laurinitis telling people "I wish you well in your future endeavors" when they got fired.

Would Bo Dallas count? It's more the use of him, but it's all based on the crowd hating him for being a generic good guy.
