A recent trend in Hollywood has seen the remakes of movies that got their start in the 80s. There were horror ones such as Friday the 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street, action ones like Conan The Barbarian, and I'm sure many more that I'm just not thinking of since I just woke up.
SO, my question is, what movies from the 80s do you fear getting remakes?
I have two myself:
-Back To The Future: Honestly, I'm surprised that this hasn't been put up for a remake, since we're rapidly approaching the date of Back to the Future II's future scenes. But I just know that if they remade it, with a 2010s Marty going back to the 80s, it just wouldn't feel as good as the original.
-Short Circuit: CGI Johnny 5, for one. That and I don't think they'd be able to do the humor they did with him back then nowadays without degenerating into the "comedy" you see in some of today's bad comedy movies.

Didn't someone try to start a rumor about BTTF 2K1x with Justin Bieber?
And Short Circuit keeps weaving through "will they" and "won't they". Yeah, have Michael Bay direct it, then Johnny 5 can fart and pee! And EXPLOSIONS. And instead of Ben, he can bring to life the Indian taxi cabs from that Robot Chicken Transformers 3 sketch, so he can create an Avengers-like Bayverse between SC and TF! And don't forget the Alien Turtles. Yay, he can use special effects to have multiple Megan Foxes in different characters with that idea!!!

Some asshole will remake it "dark and gritty" Although I'd mark out when the new Flash would say he's STAR QB OF THE NEW YORK JETS and everybody starts laughing their ass off at him.

In 2010, Sam Ayer (End of Watch) was pegged to direct a remake of "Commando" starring Sam Worthington. And because this is a just and fair world in which you're not allowed to just up and remake "Commando", it's been stuck in development hell for going on four years now. Let this be a lesson that you don't EVER try to remake "Commando". You don't see some piddling artist trying to recreate the Mona Lisa or the Sistine Chapel.

Didn't someone try to start a rumor about BTTF 2K1x with Justin Bieber? I heard this as well. Wasn't there a rash of proposed remakes of films starring Bieber? I'm convinced people started those rumours to mess with people.

Field of Dreams with Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds instead of Joe Jackson. If you inject it he will come...

I don't even want to think about it.
The film industry is all too eager to rape classic intellectual properties they feel will pop so much as a modest nostalgia dollar.
I'd say one out of every fifteen remakes has a little life in it. The rest are useless hack jobs that absolutely NO ONE was clamoring for. Enough already.

My mind went right to BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, but I'd kinda be interested to see that remake. Kinda. With the knowledge in advance, accepted by all, that it just couldn't be better than the John Carpenter/Kurt Russell movie. My other pick is INDIANA JONES. Though getting it away from Lucas could be a good move.... It's weird....even though it was basically a complete screw-up of a Flash Gordon adaptation (gone was the pulp vibe of the comic strips and in its place was an expensive Italian interpretation of what STAR WARS had done a couple years earlier), it's really the best adaptation (IMO) of Flsah Gordon that exists. Also, don't remake the 1980 movie.....just interpret the original comic strips & serials in a different way. (A BUCK ROGERS movie would be the same kind of thing - go a different route thematically vs. doing a remake of the TV show, which itself had a STAR WARS influence.)

It's only a matter of time with most of them. It's really amazing how much of our pop culture comes from the 80's. A huge chunk of identifiable characters and stories really made it THE decade to remember. While there was a little bit in the 90's, it had definitely dropped off very soon after. It's interesting to look back at.
Oh, I can definitely see Gremlins getting remade soon.

The thing about a lot of '80s movies like the Blues Brothers or Stripes is that since they weren't based on pre-existing properties, they pretty much existed only as vehicles for the stars to do their thing. I can see something where the story is more important than the performers, like Gremlins or Flash Gordon, working as a remake easily, but not something like, say, Beverly Hills Cop, where you're watching it to see Eddie Murphy.
