My sister and I plan on starting Kakuranger tonight, after Rampage. How does it rate, as a series? I'm not too familiar with anything outside of vague plot points and some of the fight footage from MMPR, which I haven't seen in years. This is my favourite sentai series and I will say it can be devisive amongst fans because well I can't really say without spoiling it but prepare for some serious whiplash is the only way I can describe without giving anything away. I personally love the entire thing though and Tsuruhime is just the best. Christmas episode is a f***ing blast IMO the best in all of sentai.

We enjoyed Zyuranger and loved Dairanger, so I'm looking forward to this one. After that, the only other one I have on DVD right now is Hurricanger, which I'm looking forward to.

DaiRanger is f***ing epic ranks in the top 3 series of all time with most fans....untill you get to the final episode and people get real opinionated on that. Zyuranger was alright best part is Bandora and her song. Hurricanger is alot of fun theme song is gonna be stuck in your head for a long time hell this applies to most sentai theme songs. Something to note about Kakuranger is they are the first to do the crossover movies so if you like the series after you finish it you can probably find it online somewhere.

It's really good. I tend to like early 90s Sentai anyway, but Kakuranger is definitely a good watch.
It's oddly fascinating to see how MMPR had to rework the footage for season 3.

It's actually improved if you just turn off the final episode at the eyecatch and ignore the epilogue bit.

Add Liveman to this as well...although how that ends is alot more just WTF sheer confusion and dissapointment.

The way the first three seasons, but particularly season 3, is still fascinating to me years later. I class them as this: Zyuranger - they were clearly trying to use as much footage as they possibly could, regardless of how it was adapted. Look at "A Star Is Born" for a great example of sacrificing story for the sake of burning off the maximum amount of footage possible. I think it was better in the later seasons when they stopped trying to use every piece of footage they could and just focused on making their show make sense. Dairanger - we got cheated out of the best part of the series, the ground fights. The mecha fights were pretty basic, save for when Won Tiger was used. But those ground fights added personality to a lot of those monsters that otherwise had no characterization in MMPR. Granted, I'm fairly certain we never would've seen the Tofu Hermit in MMPR if it's ground footage could've been used lol Kakuranger - it's crazy to realize that they adapted the footage essentially in reverse order, then went back and adapted the middle to wrap the series as a whole. I just started the first episode and... wow lol I heard it was very campy, but damn. That beginning sequence was NOT how I expected the bad guys to be freed.

What I love about early Kakuranger is the info dump on the Yokai neat little touch to inform the audience about the real life lore behind the monster.

I haven't watched in years but from what I recall Kakuranger's first half is pretty goofy and off the wall and the second half of the series is more in line with a traditional Sentai raises the stakes and gets slightly more serious, but also doesn't totally abandon the humorous aspects from time to time. (Especially with their version of Ninjor...Ninjaman.)

I will say that the Youkai posing as humans for a slow integration and invasion is pretty cool. Especially taking over the police force, you didn't see Bandora or Shadam doing that lol
