Man’s blood alcohol content too high for police to measure By Will Lerner January 3, 2014 4:52 PM Odd News 28-year-old Levi B. Carter’s accomplishment is one that’s truly horrifying. KCRG ABC 9 News is reporting that the Iowa City, Iowa man was so intoxicated that when given a breath test, the breathalyzer wasn’t able to calculate it. The Iowa City Press Citizen writes that the police responded to a call from a woman who claimed to be Carter’s passenger at about 2am Friday morning. She told them he had driven off the road and hit a street sign. When the authorities arrived to Carter’s home they found him in his basement, “talking to people that were not there.” He wasn’t able to stand without holding himself up, and if you can believe it, “smelled strongly of alcohol.” Mr. Carter told police he had drank two Bud Lights. Two. He failed an eye test and was unable to complete any other field sobriety tests. When they administered the breathalyzer test, the Press Citizen writes he, “…provided a weak breath into a preliminary breath test and the last reading was .467 before the PBT just read ‘HI.’” Geez. I don’t think you will be surprised to find out he was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. This is not the only story of this nature to come out of Iowa this week. Just this past Thursday 40-year-old Chad Harvey blew .435 in the nearby city of North Liberty. WQAD News 8, which covered that story, pointed readers to breathalyzer information from Lifeloc Technologies, a company that, “…designs, engineers and manufactures precision fuel-cell based breath alcohol testing equipment.” On their site they discuss what happens with BAC’s at these levels. Lifeloc writes that a BAC between .30 and .40 is, “Extremely life threatening. You have little comprehension of where you are. You may pass out suddenly and be difficult to awaken. Complete unconsciousness. Coma is possible. This is the level of surgical anesthesia. Death may occur,” and that, “Over 0.45 BAC death will occur in most people.” Carter and Harvey must be considered lucky to have survived not only driving while intoxicated, but to have survived the punishment they inflicted on their bodies. news.yahoo.com/blogs/oddnews/man%E2%80%99s-blood-alcohol-content-too-high-for-police-to-measure-215215735.html

What if he's telling the truth and there was a bottling error at the Bud plant?
We don't know. Those two pisswaters could have had an alcohol content well over 9,000.
I don't get these types that can push throught the nappy time threshold just to pursue additional drunkeness.
It's a special talent, in a way.

I'm pretty sure that back in my wild partying days I probably could have hit something similar. There were at least two times when I was so plastered that I thought that I might die. Strangely, both times I woke up next to a reasonably hot chick and had no recollection of any activities that may have transpired. The second time I had a headache and was groggy for about 2 days and that's when I knew the jig was up. I'm in retirement from that nonsense these days.

So he blew a Boris Yeltsin. This isn't getting no sold. -------- So, what exactly is the legalities of this? They administered the test in his home? With a warrant I'm sure? If the cops were as light on the details as this story, the guy's getting off.

I'm sure I've only had 2 beers is by far the most common totally bullshit excuse used by someone who has been caught driving drunk.
But f***ing hell when the breathalyzer can't handle how much you have drunk then you are truly legendarily wasted (Not that this sort of idiotic behavior glorified of course still)

Hello, police officer here. PDT's are immaculate and used only for detection as probable cause. The reading a PBT gives is basically an uncalibrated reading and it alone is not sufficient evidence in DUI cases. That is why we do FST and use blood samples. A better breath alcohol measurement, comes back at a station after arrest on the intoxilyzer 5000 Breath Alcohol Measurement Instrument. It is self calibrating and accurate. The two samples taken on it are evidence. If the man demonstrated enough clues on scene, the officer may not have used intoxilyzer. Though I don't know why not. I say that bc the story does not give his actual measured BAC. not sayin he wasn't hammered but a PBT not taking a sample justmeans it was high. The state record in Texas when I was trained on the intoxilyzer, was over .500 and they said the woman lived.

Isn't this very similar to one of the Kurt Angle DUI cases that he got out of? I think the one where he answered the door with a mouthful of pills?
EDIT: Angle refused his breathalyzer if I recall, and It got tossed because no officers actually saw him driving

I just imagine the breathalyzer looking like one of those old analog bathroom scales. So that he was so drunk that it spun around past it's limit so it goes through another rotation and by the time it finally settles that it actually lists a sober reading.
