Maybe, and I'll grant you they were speeding to get away, and I'm not denying the photogs were scum; I just don't know that we can safely speculate that a drunk driver wouldn't have crashed anyway. Maybe, maybe not. Yeah, but I would say their involvement goes beyond simply "they didn't help." They were the specific reason Dodi ordered the driver to start speeding. Even if they'd have crashed anyway, the guy would have been going slower, meaning the chances of survivor would have went up considerably.

Why the **** do they continue to let the paparazzi follow around celebrities? There's been so many horrible incidents involving them putting celebrities in danger and even death as mentioned in the past page.

It seems like any laws put in place would be hard to enforce/draw the line on, i.e. at what point would actions be against the law vs ordinary picture taking etc. Seems like you'd have to make it a case by case basis, and i a lot of ways it'd be impossible to police beforehand.

Celebrity chasers are bottom feeders, we all know that, but this type of attitude isn't exclusive to them.
Go try to drown yourself right now, I guarantee you'll more people snapping pics with their phone than you will people willing to swim out and get you.
People are ghouls.

Guy was probably half a mile away shooting through a telephoto lens, but I know what you guys mean.
I doubt he was like, "hope she dies so these pix'll be worth monies!" but with the f***ing insano demand for celeb pictures I'd imagine it wasn't farm off.
As gross as these dudes are, the people who pay money and obsessively seek out this kind of garbage are just as bad.

Its hard to tell when people are drowning. They don't act like they do on Baywatch. Its surprisingly subtle.

One way to deal with paparazzi is for major stars to boycott the companies that own the websites that buy and publish the photos.
That way, we can see which stars are really serious about opposing paparazzi, and which ones really need them for publicity purposes.

Not that I'm surprised since it's the Mail but that is really badly written.

What if the guy taking pictures couldn't swim but called the ambulance before taking pictures.

If I ever become a famous actor since I'm studying performing arts at my college I'd love nothing more than to tell my limo driver to run the f***ers over.

These are moments where it should be okay to beat the living crap out of paparazzi. Do they even have standards?!

One of the things that is often discussed in terms of ethics for photojournalists is when do you stop filming and do you make yourself the story. It's an ugly business, but a lot of these photographers have probably had it pounded into their head to always keep the camera on and always keep filming. I'm not saying I support it, but that's the grey area that photographers deal with on a routine basis.

I always wonder in those damned found footage movies where the dumbass never stops filming despite being chased by ghosts/monsters.
I get it now, all those guys are paparazzi!

That part I didn't know about that. Disgusting. I thought that was fairly well-known. I don't think the photos ever got published in the UK or America, but they did make their way to an Italian magazine, IIRC. Yeah, I've seen them around online.

I don't think they were stood as close as you think they were, it's not like they would be stood on the edge of the sea taking photos while it happened, usually they're quite a distance away using high powered lenses to get photos like these. I'm not excusing them from being leaches taunting/goading/stalking celebs, but I don't think they would have been able to do much in this case. Wouldn't have taken much to make a bit of effort, they had "more important" thing in mind obviously.

I'll add the whole issue of "they're not close", as people tend to forget the whole "long distance lens" thing people like the pappi' tend to use.
Also, I remember, as a kid, getting swept up in a bad wave and getting tossed around. It didn't take that long overall, and I lucked out by getting shoved back to shore. the luck is being close, like the surfer.
Plus, with the amount of gear a papparazi, or any photographer has on him (lenses, flashes, accessories, etc.), it sounds like a bad idea overall.
