Technically he did get his hands on it, and was even billed as champ for three house shows, but it was short lived. He didn't need the WWE championship anyway. He had the Million Dollar one.

My pick was Piper but if he wasn't willing to job than I can understand why. I would have settled for better wrestlemania opponents. WM1, 2 and 8 make sense but I wish he fought Race instead of Adonis and Savage instead of Bad News Brown.

I thought about that (Dibiase with the belt at house shows), but wasn't it retconned? I was thinking they said that the record would show that the title was vacated as soon as Andre forfeited it.
