Just wondering if anyone else here loves this band as much as I do. I think they're brilliant songwriters, and completely underrated. They had a hit with Stacy's Mom, but of course as usual that wasn't even close to their best song. Here are a couple examples of some really good songs:

They are fantastic. They made a Brittany Spears song enjoyable. Then there is "Hey Julie" which is an incredible song.

I used to pass by the store that inspired the name. Sadly it closed down years ago.

They're pretty good.
They suffer from what I call 'Marcy Playground' syndrome.

They're pretty good. They suffer from what I call 'Marcy Playground' syndrome. Care to explain that one? It's pretty much what the OP was saying. Their one hit pretty much doomed them and they have FAR better stuff that a lot of people never bothered to listen to. I saw Marcy Playground last year as a part of the Summerland tour, and they were fantastic. 'Sex and Candy' was like, their 6th best song they played that night.

Good deal, I have also known that more as Semisonic syndrome. A 90's alt band that had fans and good music before their big hit, got the one hit, and were only remembered for it. On a related note, I saw The Gin Blossoms a few years back. They are still putting out records and touring and their new stuff is great. But the first hour of the show they passive/aggressively played the hits. The obviously gave no shit at all and hated those songs. Put no effort in at all. The second hour was all rarities and stuff they wrote post fame and they played it like they loved it. It was like watching 2 different bands.

I just know that Stacy's mom has got it going on.
God that song is 11 years old already. Now I feel older.
