Been watching a lotta Frasier on Netflix lately, and figured I'd start a thread for Martin Crane himself- John Mahoney.
Dude's just a really talented, funny character actor who's good in pretty much anything he's in, whether it's Frasier or other tv shows or one of the ton of movies he's been in like Say Anything, In the Line of Fire, Primal Fear etc.
Appreciate this man.

David Hyde Pierce once said that John Mahoney taught him about wine and fine dining.

For some reason, I thought this was gonna be about Steve Gutenberg's character from the Police Academy movies.
But Martin Crane was cool, too.

I'm still trying to figure out how such a fun-loving Joe-sixpack like Martin had 2 of the most pretentious girly-man sons in history.

They really kind of played it up over time, but they get some of the snobbery from him. He isn't exactly open minded about a lot of the things they are into, after all. It just manifests differently. Frasier obviously has an easier time relating to Martin, but the irony is that the period he would have likely most got along with him, during Cheers, they were not on speaking terms due to a falling out. When he came back to Seattle, Frasier spent more time with Niles, and sort of got pulled back into the snooty world.

Everyone on that show was great, but could be quite annoying.
Except Martin. He was just great.
Appreciation.

Oh yeah, he was great in Young Guns.

According to Martin, his wife was exactly the same as they are in terms of refinement, with the added element that she could enjoy a beer and a baseball game and never thought she was superior to anyone.

Yeah, which he did throw in their face after they were being dicks, but they made up and swallowed their pride some. All of them have their moments of bad decisions or being jerks, but he did kind of bring them back down to earth sometimes.

Sy Flembeck is nothing if he's not versatile.
