So last night, I went to American Idiot: The Musical at the Washington Pavilion up here in Sioux Falls. Being a Green Day fan, I was fairly optimistic about this show, since I had heard it had gotten rave reviews.
And I was not disappointed.
It was a fantastic show. Probably one of the best shows I've been to since The Blue Man Group and Spamalot. Definitely worth the price of admission. If you're a Green Day fan, and love musicals, I would recommend this in a heartbeat. There wasn't much dialogue besides the main character, but I think it was fantastic, even with very little dialogue, as the dialogue fit perfectly where it needed to be.
10/10
Probably one of best done songs by the cast.

Was there an actual plot? I know American Idiot is a "concept album" but any sense of a cohesive story in those songs goes completely over my head.

Was there an actual plot? I know American Idiot is a "concept album" but any sense of a cohesive story in those songs goes completely over my head. It basically followed the lives of three friends, Johnny, Will, and Tunny, and the trials and tribulations of each one. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Johnny moves to the city and hooks up with an unnamed woman, "Whatshername," in a relationship based on sex and drugs, but she leaves him after eventually realizing their relationship is mutually destructive. He tries to clean up and gets a desk job, but finds out it's not for him, and returns to the Suburbs where he came from.
Will was going to follow his friends, but stays home when finding out his girlfriend is pregnant. After dealing with a drug & alcohol induced depression from Will, she leaves Will for a better life, taking the baby with her. However, they reconcile at the end somewhat.
Tunny joins Johnny, but he becomes bored with the city, and then enlists in the military. However, he's injured while on duty, but meets and falls in love with a nurse, bringing her back with him after returning from active duty.
