...how about some supporting actor/actress categories for TV that aren't the broad "Best Supporting Actor/Actress in a TV Movie, Mini-Series, or Series" that we already have? Why the hell are Rob Lowe and Aaron Paul duking it out for an award? That's some bullshit.

Golden Globes, award season's Smackdown, where 88 people decide who gets B-team Emmys and Oscars, and Ricky Gervais is considered funny and controversial for making the same jokes everyone else made five years prior.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler erased the stench of Gervais in about 30 seconds last year.

I'd like to show Tina Fey my Golden Globes!
That's terrible, I'm sorry.

One of the things I don't like are when actors who had lead roles were nominated in the supporting actor/actress category. This wasn't too bad this year. Bradley Cooper didn't really have what I would consider a supporting role in American Hustle, but most of the other nominees are pretty appropriate. You could make a case that Julia Roberts did not have a supporting role in August: Osage County, but I think it's appropriate. Also, I don't like some of the films nominated as a Musical or Comedy. Studios think they have a better chance of winning if they can get their film nominated in this category rather than the Drama category. Some are not so bad in the category, but taken as a whole, the list of nominated films (and performances) don't seem appropriate to the Musical or Comedy category. I think Saving Mr. Banks (correctly nominated as a Drama) was more of a comedy than some of the films nominated in the Musical or Comedy (and it had musical elements as well). Granted, I have not seen Nebraska or Inside Llewn Davis, so I can't really judge them. I know people say Inside Llewyn Davis is a 'Musical.' In my opinion, a Musical is meant to be a film like Yankee Doodle Dandy, An American in Paris, Gigi, and Singin' in the Rain. I don't think a biographical drama film about a singer or musician should automatically be called a 'Musical' just because it contains scenes where the character performs music. Walk the Line and Ray are two other examples of this. Let's take a look at some of these Musical or Comedy films. I. August: Osage County (Meryl Streep nominated): I've heard it called a 'black comedy' but I think it's really a pretty heavy drama dealing with suicide, incest, teases of ephebophilia, and drug use. II. Before Midnight (Julie Delpy nominated): This is probably the least light and comical film in this film series. The last 45 minutes or so is essentially {Spoiler}the lead couple fighting with each other on the verge of a split. This should have been submitted as a Drama. III. Her. Her does have sweet, light, and funny moments, but overall it's more fitting in the Drama category. Admittedly this film covers multiple genres like science fiction and romance. IV. American Hustle: This is more appropriate in the comedy section than the above films. It has a similar tone to Boogie Nights. This is definitely a comedy-drama. I still think it would be more appropriate in the Drama category. V. The Wolf of Wall Street: This is probably the funniest film nominated in this category, at least of the films I've seen. It is a black comedy. I have no problems with this film being nominated as a comedy, though some of its elements are reminiscent of films like Goodfellas or even Citizen Kane (which itself has a great deal of comedy). Taken as a whole, this list of films just doesn't convey a list of Musical or Comedy films. Films like The World's End and even This is the End really get shafted when the Golden Globes allow these films to be nominated.

Christ knows why Rob Lowe is even nominated for Behind the Candelabra. All he does is turn up for about five minutes and look really weird. And why the shit is Veep only nominated for Best Actress in a TV comedy or musical!

Like most Coen Brothers films, Inside Llewyn Davis is hard to pin down to just a comedy or drama. It's not as light-hearted as, say, The Big Lebowski or Raising Arizona, but it definitely has its comedic moments. It has more of a gallows humor like Fargo.
And I could even buy into the argument that it's a musical in a pinch. The music in the film isn't just "Hey, let's hear a song now!" (like in O Brother Where Art Thou?); the music is often used as examples of how Llewyn views the world and his life. Since the music adds so much layering to the film's themes and plot, I could give it a chance as a type of musical.

Judging by past threads I think I am one of the few on here that does enjoy 100% of Ferrels work. So that's probably why I am an unbiased mark for whatever he does. I also like Wiig to. I can get why people don't like Ferrel and his comedy though, he is definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

Kelly Osbourne is the Stephanie McMahon of E!
She exists on that channel solely for nepotistic reasons.
Without the name "Osbourne", she'd be working across the street at Ye Rustic Inn serving drinks.
