A million dollars for every year of his prison sentence. That's a lot of cigarettes.

Wait--he got 100 years? Did the John die?
If not--I'm all for punishing the guy--but that seems like an unusual punishment, even for an aggravated assault.

The story doesn't say, but it's possible he had a previous record, was under probation, or some other mitigating factor. Add that possibility to the second person he severely beat, and I could see it.

Good thing for him that the prostitute survived the attack, otherwise he might've ended up with 200 years.

Thank god he wasn't wearing 70s platform shoes; might have taken out a city block.

You know, next time I get a paper cut I will sue the manufacturer of the paper, because I sure as hell don't see any warnings on the package. I mean, I'm like bleeding and stuff!

He would have been ruled innocent if he strolled into the courtroom while this song was playing.

I think in 5 years or so you'll go and buy a loaf of bread at the store and inside the bread packaging there will be a big piece of paper warning you of everything that could possible go wrong.
Warning: Bread can be a choking hazard if you refuse to chew it
Warning: Bread can be hot when used with a toaster
It's starting to get ridiculous, this guy will probably get something out of this lawsuit though. Just like chick who sued McDonalds because Coffee was too hot and thief who sued home owner because he got hurt trying to break in.
Legal system at it's finest. Common sense? Not even once.

Not even once. the McDonalds lady? she needed SKIN GRAFTS. and she was still found to be 20% responsible herself, which mitigated some of the damages McDonalds had to pay out. and the thief? that's just an urban legend.

The vast majority of these types of lawsuits are dismissed, the ones we hear about succeeding are rare and, even then, there's usually information that's left out to make it seem more shocking. The thief suing the homeowners is a well-known urban legend that persists because people took spam e-mail at face value and kept repeating it. This dude is in prison, will be for the rest of his life most likely. They don't care about compensatory damages for the frivolous lawsuits of lifelong felons.
