Seriously, I've endured far too many years of this practice. I'm about to swing on one of these clowns.
It's a simple social courtesy. I say hi. You say hi. We then go our seperate ways; probably never to see each other ever again.
Be dismissive of me if you must, but for f@$&'s sake acknowledge that I exist and that I have engaged you socially.
Your dumb life is no better or different than my dumb life.

You guys have never crossed someone's path out in the World, tried to be friendly and not gotten so much as a simple nod in return? It's infuriating.

I hate when people that I don't know say hi to me. I do the obligatory hi back but don't see the point as our path's will likely never cross again.

People don't. That's my angle. There's a lot of folks out there that won't even give you a casual "hey" or "'sup" and I am pretty well tired of it. It's not like I daydream about hanging out with said randoms, I just hate it when people brush right by you like that. Folks just ain't neighborly no more.

Speaking is way too formal for Regular Joe on the street. A simple head nod should suffice any situation were you're not actually introducing yourself to some one.

Most people in my city say "hi" or "How's it going buddy?" But most of them do it in the creepiest way possible so I tend to ignore them.

I'm a paranoid lunatic so I'm always uncomfortable when strangers say hi to me. I don't trust them. I always think they want something. I do put on a fake smile and bullshit with them if I have to but because of personal experiences I just don't trust anyone right away.

Aw. You guys make me sad. Look, I am by no means a social butterfly. I'm shy and iffy around strangers and large crowds still unnerve me a little and I'm about as grown as I'm going to get. But no love for palaver with strangers? You don't like it when you can yuck it up with a store clerk and a few of the people in line for a second or whatever? You know, people are people and all that?

Not to mention, if I'm off doing my own thing I might not even hear the greeting. My hearing has always been...strange.

I always say hi to people while I'm walking down the street. It's just a simple courtesy that ties society togther. Saying "good morning" to a fellow passerby is such an easy gesture to make so why not? I do live in a pretty friendly city and an awesome part of town though.

I live in my head so half the time, I'm too busy with my own thoughts if I'm just walking down the street to even notice if someone says hi to me. Nothing against them, I'm just not paying attention.

Man I'm totally he same. I've even missed people I know saying hi to me because I'm thinking about something else. But honestly I don't really care about Joe Shmo trying to say hi to me. Unless they want help or something, why is he/she bothering me? I'll even usually say hi back, but it's completely hollow and insincere.

Why are you saying "Hi" to strangers?

I'm usually just thinking about my own business, and anytime a stranger tries to make small talk with me, I always sort of think "well, I guess I have to do this now."
