........someone please explain if this was good or not.
I enjoyed it, but it was odd. Which I think was enjoyable?
It was way over the top for a Lone Ranger movie, which was off putting at times.
The origin of the mask seems brilliant.
Trying to figure out of that was William Fichtner the whole movie was kinda fun.
And Tonto.............I wanna like the complete absurdity of him, I think. Or not?
Help?

I liked it despite the critics, especially once the music kicked in

I thought it was too silly. It had some decent moments, but again it's another one of those movies that tries way too hard to be quirky. It also is too violent at times, the tone is all over the place.
And f*** Johnny Depp. I hate how he came out "against portrayls of Native Americans" and proceeds to give one of the most offensive performances to Native Americans. Any version of Tonto isn't that over the top. And he should have never gotten the role to begin with...oh wait I guess he *thinks* his grandmother was Native American...I guess that makes it okay.

Yeah, this was rough. I don't get offended easily, but this made me cringe/seethe. My grandmother actually was a full-blooded Cherokee, so I guess I'm a little sensitive concerning Native American 'black face/red face'. Other than that, I still didn't think it was good movie. Armie Hammer, while having a hell of a name, was a pretty shitty Lone Ranger. Having said that, he probably did the best he could do since they wrote the Lone Ranger to be a screw up and Tonto was the star of the movie.

The movie got a bad rap. Lone Ranger is right there with Iron Man 3, Fast 6 and others in a "meh it was alright" Summer of 2013. It was a major flop but most of the people I know who have ended up seeing it (especially now on DVD) thought it was alright in quality. Not the "abomination" it was made out to be due to its disastrous box office.
I think it's right in line in terms of quality with the other blockbuster-type movies that came out. In fact, gimme Lone Ranger over Man of Steel any day. Kick-ass ending sequence too! Damn that theme's awesome.
