I love how some people here are just blindly speculating, "well he just quit because he was upset at the booking," which then evolves into a debate about Punk's hypothetical work ethic in the face of anything that isn't main-event booking. First of all A) something that's written in the dirt sheets in November is not guaranteed to come through come Mania time so who knows if you're right, and B) you people have no idea why Punk is leaving in the first place. This guy has been working with nagging injuries since before WM29 so I would imagine he's just burned out. Politics may be able playing a role in all this but I think it's best if we hear from the man himself on the matter.

There's 3 reasons you do things in the entertainment business, love, money, and exposure. Punk's unhappy, doesn't need money, and certainly doesn't need the exposure.
Good for him for leaving when he's had enough.

I've been especially skeptical of anything I read on wrestling news websites lately, for some reason, so I'll believe this when I see something from the 'E about it. Its also an incredibly incomplete story...why did CM Punk leave? Maybe he quit, maybe he's just taking some time to get healthy before Wrestlemania. Maybe they wanted him to job to Lesnar on Raw without any set up. I would hope Punk could stick around for another five months or so and get a proper good-bye if he wants to leave, rather than the last thing he does on WWE TV be to be eliminated by Kane and chokeslammed through a table.

Could this not just be part of the angle? Allowing him to both rest up for Elimination Chamber/Wrestlemania and be able to sell the storyline?
Otherwise it wouldn't be beneath Vince and co to just bury the shit out of him if he did bail out of the blue.
Finally, if he's really banged up and feeling down and everything, he could have just had a heart to heart with Vince who agreed that it would be best for him to go home and rest. It might not be the sensational headline "Punk takes his ball and goes home" but, c'mon. Couldn't THAT have happened?

Actually I didn't even consider the Network. Surely a giant corporation like WWE would have sorted out such a major payment issue before announcing the switch?

If this is true and not a work, and it seems like a legit news story to me, then what is the RAW on March 3rd going to be like? At the ASA in Chicago. Could be an... interesting night.

Well, this f***ing sucks. Bryan is my last hope. I know people say this all the time, but Bryan is the only one that's really keeping me watching now. And that is a thin lifeline to have in this company. Especially when there's no guarantee of him getting a shot to shine. There's a better chance of the Bipolar Shield forming IRL than there is of Trips doing the job at WM.

Kofi. Punk's best friend (on the tour) and easily replaceable. Then it would be AJ, who is way more over than Kofi and I think less replaceable. HOLD ON, STEP BACK...was that a compliment of sorts from kidglov3 to AJ? WHAT WORLD DO I LIVE IN? This is indeed a disturbing universe.

... Punk's the secret investor in TNA!
The new name is going to be total non-stop punk or, TNP. It'll feature nothing but knockouts match with the winner getting a fabulous hour at the Motel 6 with Punk.

I don't even know what to say, really. I've been formulating a response but nothing seems to come out.
This is a deeply depressing time to be a fan right now.

I can't imagine not getting to wrestle HHH being the breaking point that caused CM Punk to walk out. I'm not saying he WOULDN'T quit over something seemingly not a big deal (because Punk is a known hot head in that regard), but not getting to put on a barn burner with Trips - that's probably not one of them. Not simply losing his match to Triple H, but losing being part of one of the main events. For all intents and purposes, this is probably what WrestleMania looks like now: Randy Orton vs. Batista Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt That leaves Punk with what? Sheamus? The Shield again? He went from main event to 5th biggest match AT BEST CM Punk vs Kane is where they're heading, but yeah - I know what you mean.

I think Punk should come back and work through Mania, but the man needs to take at least 6 months off to recharge the batteries. He said 2 months wasn't long enough, so give him 6...maybe miss Summerslam (and that payoff) in the process.
Sheamus coming back, and Christian kinda helps things a little bit and it'll soften the blow.

if WWE is smart they won't have anyone cut a "he picked up his ball and went home"" petty whinefest because whoever does it (it'll probably be Cena) is going to get nuclear heat. fans are too smart to automatically assume the company's version these days.

You may as well tape that match in a green-screen studio, because that crowd wouldn't want a bar of it. I emphasise the 'if' because I don't appear to have visions of the future where we already know the results of WrestleMania XXX.

The ironic thing is, if Punk has some big comeback in two years, he'll be the guy getting the part-timer superpush that he can't stand now. Actually its funny I was thinking how his best chance to actually get that Wrestlemania main event he wants so bad is to be what he hates, the part timer returning to steal the spotlight. Leave for a few years and come back he'll have a good chance of being in Batista's spot. And if not then because he's still too current feeling, then maybe by the time he's Batista's age and he's a nostalgia act.

I almost hope that happens for the posts explaining why it's above criticism and simply had to go down that way.
