Here's my question: if Punk's beef really is about facing Triple H at Wrestlemania, who would he rather work with and for what stakes? He said in interviews its Daniel Bryan's moment, so it can't be for the WWE title. Wrestling and (presumably) beating the lead figure of The Authority would be a major storyline. Who else is available that would be as big a deal? The only one I can think of is a rematch with Lesnar. Have Bryan win the Chamber. Have Punk challenge and beat Batista at EC for his Mania title shot. Punk vs Bryan main event at Mania. Kills two birds with one stone. Makes Punk happy and shuts up the pro-Bryan crowds. Will never happen of course (Vince would never want to be seen as giving in to the fans or a wrestler) but if they wanted to fix these "issues" they could find a way relatively easily. Could still do most of the other planned Mania matches too.

Has Punk tweeted a picture of his contract in the fridge yet?

Dodged that bullet. Punk is a great talent and obviously really popular but it was really obvious in the past few months that he wanted to be ANYWHERE but at a wrestling show. Maybe this leave will be good for him and he can either be happy with his life again or rediscover whatever love he had for wrestling and come back eventually. Who knows.

He can't do that unless he's beating one of the Authority's "chosen ones", which CM Punk certainly is not.

To be fair, I can't blame him for not wanting to face HHH again. Their match at Summerslam was absolute shite, and pretty much torpedoed the Summer of Punk.
Plus, he had all this gross-ass pube-like chest hair. It was gnarly.

If Triple H is as smart as WWE tells us he is, he won't say a damn word about this on TV. Because I could easily see Vince being desperate enough for Punk to come back that'll he offer him full open mic privilege again, and Punk being shrewd and/or pissed enough to accept and we end up with a nuclear pipebomb of some sort. *shrug*

I really don't think it's so much about what's best for Punk. I think his leaving in more to do with 'what's best for business' in Punk's eyes. He's not a stupid man. He knows that there's BIG money to be made if Daniel Bryan were to Main Event WMXXX. If there's more buyers of the PPV, EVERYONE gets a bigger piece. But WWE refuses, for whatever reason, to do this. Instead, we've got Bryan with Cena at the moment and probably up until Wrestlemania.
Punk thinks that there are a LOT of guys on the roster who DESERVE a WM spot but aren't going to get it. Instead there's going to be a part timer in the Main Event. There's the New Age Outlaws with the Tag Titles who've been back all of a month. A spot that could have been held by the Uso's, or the Real Americans, or Los Matadors......
I really think Punk's departure is much more than 'he doesn't want to wrestle HHH'

Punk said in the MMA interview that he didn't know what his Wrestlemania match was yet.
Maybe, after the Rumble, Vince, Triple H, and Stephanie came up to him with a twinkle in their eyes, and told him their plan.
Vince: So we've decided your match at Mania.
Punk: Yeah?
HHH: I'm gonna pin you.
Punk: Uhhh...
Steph: It's gonna be really good.
HHH: I hit you with two pedigrees so it really puts you over.
Punk: (speechless)
Vince: We've decided that the Authority is too popular and likable to lose everything at Wrestlemania. Therefore, we're gonna run a story where you wanna beat up Hunter because you think he's being unfair.
Punk: Would I get to have some kind of back and forth with him on TV?
HHH: No. I didn't like the way it went last time. I'm supposed to go over.
Punk: ...
Steph: Well, what do you think?
Vince: I know it isn't the Wrestlemania main event you wanted but, well, what is? If wishes were fishes as they say *chuckles*
Punk: Yeah, I'm done.

I think a lot of us have to step back and stop thinking about things in terms of short term "what, a match against </so and so> wasn't big enough for you, Punk?", and take a broader view.
By most of these accounts, it simply seems clear that Punk is feeling severe burn out, and likely a key reason for that is that while guys like he and Bryan are certainly pushed, certainly hyped, certainly treated like big names in WWE, the overall tenor of WWE shows and presentation still largely remains unchanged from before Punk pulled his worked shoot.
These guys aren't marks; it's highly doubtful that Punk's leaving because "waah, I wouldn't have the last match on the WM card", it's much more likely it's "I've been working endlessly, I'm tired, I'm hurt, I tried to push for major changes in our product and by and large I'm not seeing results", and a straw like this may have simply broken the camel's back. Punk knows WM is a huge payday for him, regardless, but he clearly doesn't need it nor does he want to put up with the frustrations.
On a much more macro level, I think this is what WWE gets for creating a booking atmosphere where if you aren't the biggest name in the company, you're a one month stretch away from near irrelevance. There was a time in professional wrestling where being a solid midcarder was considered a perfectly acceptable role; not that guys never got fed up being stuck in spots they were probably better than (see: Hogan in the AWA), but not being World Champion wasn't nearly the big deal it is today.
These days, WWE is largely responsible for creating an environment where non-World Champions might as well be jobbers, and I think many younger wrestlers have taken it to heart, this insane mantra that "if you're not in this business to be World Champion, then why are you here at all?"
That doesn't tie directly into the Punk or Bryan situations, as both men have held the WWE belt, but it colors perceptions. Fans begin to take what you're saying to heart, and begin not trusting you when you tease guys being the "face of the company", but then instantly pull back, put Cena or Orton back in the top spots, and roll out guys who've been away for awhile and center your creative energies on them, instead.

I kinda like to imagine this would have happened...
CM Punk: Calm down, Punky diddily diddily diddily, doodily. They did their best shodaiddily iddily iddily diddily diddily. Gotta be nice, hostidididildilidilly... aw, hell-diddly-ding-dong crap! CAN'T YOU MORONS DO ANYTHING RIGHT?!
*everyone gasps*
Vince McMahon: Punk! We meant well and everyone here tried their best.
CM Punk: Well, my friends and I can't wrestle in good intentions, Vince! Oh, your family's out of control, but we can't blame you, because you have good intentions!
Aurora Rose: Hey! Back off, man!
CM Punk: Ooh, okay, little girl! I wouldn't want you to have a cow, man! Here's a catch-phrase you better learn for your adult years: "Hey, buddy, got a quarter?"
*everyone gasps*
Aurora Rose: I am shocked and appalled.
Stephanie McMahon: Mr. Punk, with all due respect, Aurora Rose didn't do anything.
CM Punk: Do I hear the sound of butting in? It's gotta be little Stephanie McMahon, WWE's answer to a question no one asked!
Jerry Lawler: *laughs*
CM Punk: What do we have here? - The long flabby arm of the law? The last case you got the bottom of, was a case of Mallomars!
John Laurinaitis: Mallomars, oh haha. That's going in the act.
CM Punk: Oh yeah, the clown. The only one of you buffoons who doesn't make me laugh. And as for you, I don't know you, but I'm sure you're a jerk!
Mojo Rawley: Hey, I've only been here a few minutes! What's going on?
CM Punk: You ugly, hate-filled man!
Kevin Dunn: Hey, hey, I may be ugly and hate-filled, but I... um, what was the third thing you said?
CM Punk: Hunter, you are the worst human being I have ever met.
Triple H: Hey, I got off pretty easy.

WWE should stop pushing Triple H as Punk's opponent and bring in the guy who will make Punk care again. {Spoiler}Chris Brown I'd most likely buy WM just for that.

On Sunday, a returning Batista (45/48) won the Royal Rumble.
The returning New Age Outlaws (50, 44) won the Tag Team Titles.
Other big contracts at Wrestlemania XXX are going to be taken by the returning Ultimate Warrior (54), returning Undertaker (48) and probably the returning Hulk Hogan (60) and debuting Sting (54).
You can see why a guy who works his (already injured) ass for months on end is extremely pissed off at being lost in the Wrestlemania shuffle in favour of part-time wrestlers who peaked 15+ years ago.

I'm sure some Viacom exec is rubbing his grubby little hands together anyway. That's true, and there probably is some money to be had there. It just seems really iffy for a guy that once had a skull fracture to attempt actual combat. As was stated, he's probably not seriously considering it, it just seems like even theoretically a really bad idea. Agreed. They did sign Tito, though.

If he genuinly wanted to quit and make a statement he would no show Mania. No-showing Mania would be like using the Death Star to burn a bridge. That said, the fallout would probably be more entertaining than Wrestlemania itself.

Something tells me this is part due to him going so long in the rumble only to get a weak elimination.
Conspiracy: This is all a work designed to redo the punk leaves wwe angle in an attempt to shift the focus away from Daniel Bryan
