Does anybody know if this VHS is just the 15 or so minute pre-show before SummerSlam 94 or if there's anything else on it? I was thinking of buying the VHS since it is kind of rare, but I'll pass if it's only the pre-show. This is the only footage I can find and I'm not sure if it's the same as the VHS tape: Countdown To WWF SummerSlam 94Anybody have any more info?

They aired SummerSlam Spectacular the night before this event (SummerSlam 1994 was on a Monday night believe it or not). It's possible that's this VHS. Here's what went down:
Taped: 8/1/94 in Youngstown, OH
-Lex Luger def. Crush -Bam Bam Bigelow & IRS def. The "1-2-3" Kid & Thurman "Sparky" Plugg (MOTN) -Razor Ramon def. Todd Becker -Bull Nakano def. Heidi Lee Morgan -Non-Title Match: IC Champion Diesel def. Typhoon -Ted DiBiase's Undertaker def. Sonny Rogers
An interview from Superstars with WWE Champion Bret Hart was also aired.

I used to have this it was a free gift you got from Coliseum Video when you ordered the SummerSlam 94 VHS the runtime was 30 minutes and it was just a pre-show type of thing.

Back in the early 90's the WWF had specials like "Countdown to SummerSlam" and "Survivor Series Showdown" on USA Network a week or two before the actual PPV. Basically a replacement for Saturday Night's Main Event, they were usually just two hour taped shows featuring a few more high profile matches then your average Prime Time Wrestling/Monday Night RAW's of the time and used to hype up the upcoming PPV.

I miss those shows. I particularly liked the Survivor Series Showdowns where they would take a random wrestler from each team and have them face off, leading to matches like warrior vs tully blanchard, martel vs marty jannetty and the like.

I believe this Coliseum tape being discussed is just the 30-minute pre-show that aired live from the arena before the PPV started. I do remember that the week before SummerSlam '94, the WWF had a special on USA called "Sunday Night Slam" with matches and a live in-studio segment with Vince and Lawler where fans could call and talk to them, leading to a fan getting on the air and saying that Tatanka was the one who sold out to Ted DiBiase. Then Raw the next night just re-aired the previous night's matches (I think with different commentary) while Vince and Randy Savage hosted from the studio.

Thanks for all the info everyone!
I think I'll have to pass if the tape is just the pre show I posted.
The Sunday Night Slam shows look pretty interesting. I vaguely remember the 1993 SummerSlam Spectacular when I was a little kid due to the cage match. The only other one I remember is March To WrestleMania X or something like that.

The Sunday Night Slam shows didn't start until 1994, and there were only 3 of them on USA Network (one for SummerSlam, one for Survivor Series, and one in 1995 hyping WrestleMania XI). Starting with the first In Your House, "Sunday Night Slam" became the name of the 30-minute pre-show before the PPV until it was re-named "Free for All" before the 1996 Royal Rumble. One thing I don't understand is why the WWF and USA never did these for the Royal Rumble. It was one of the "Big Four" but never got a hype special like the others.

It is strange that the Royal Rumble never got one aside from a Free For All or a Sunday Night Heat. Even King Of the Ring got a preview show called Countdown To the Crowning. However, even the Countdown To the Crowning was just really an episode of Raw just like one of the Survivor Series Showdowns was.
