It really kicked in when the NFL sold the exclusive rights to EA. I don't fault EA for buying it for one second. No company is going to refuse to get the exclusive rights. 2K, the "good guys that were screwed over" got the exclusive third party rights for MLB. Both companies did what they could do to win. That guy needs to check up on his match NFL2K5 retailed at $19.99, while Madden retailed at $49.99, that's a little more than a 10 dollar difference. All that being said, f*** EA for this year's Tiger Woods debacle.

for my money it was when they got the exclusive NFL license and proceeded to make the same exact game with barely any changes every year and still charge $60 for it. mind, it's not entirely their fault a lot of schmucks are willing to pay $60 for a glorified roster update.
I do still blame EA for the Mass Effect kerfuffle, though. I know Mac and Casey shut everyone else out and came up with the ending in like 2 days but I doubt they would've done that if EA hadn't rushed them.

I do still blame EA for the Mass Effect kerfuffle, though. I know Mac and Casey shut everyone else out and came up with the ending in like 2 days but I doubt they would've done that if EA hadn't rushed them. The original ending script leak showed that it was, more or less, what Casey always wanted. So the entire time he was saying "there was no a, b, or c ending", he was absolutely full of shit. You can argue that EA rushed BioWare to push it out for that highly important "March Holiday Rush", but the story itself and a lot of the major problems lie solely at the feet of Casey and Mac and their desire to copy Deus Ex Machina verbatim. I HATE all things Kotaku, but I did at least like their "Sim City Disaster Watch" thing. That was 100% EA's doing. Maxis received a little bit of power for developing The Sims 4 in the sense that as soon as the Sim City disaster occurred, the FIRST BIT of information about the game was "yeah, no online-requirements". I've not purchased an EA game in such a long time now. I also am amazed that people don't see these patterns. There hasn't been a major EA release that hasn't been an absolute abomination. ME3, Sim City, Battlefield 4, etc.

Anyone remember when this first start? Did it start around the time when they got the NFL license? In the 90's I don't remember many people hated them , That's when I started to hate them. Though hate is a strong word. Like any big powerful company they are going to get hate, but I hate the fact they monopolized a whole type of game, since that breeds a lack of competition...though I guess half my ire should go to the NFL too.

WCW Backstage Assualt clearly began EA hate lol. I think there's always been a group against them, probably because they made it popular to just make a new sports game and not change much (The later genesis sports games is guilty of this).

It's kinda amusing to me to see EA nowadays, when they were just another dinky software company doing stuff like Skate or Die back when I was playing on my Spectrum.
It'd be like the Evil Empire currently being US Gold or Ocean or Mastertronic or something.
