And that's why I think she exacerbated the issue. Any other response from her and it's not a problem. Hang around for another minute to try to talk Sweetie Belle through being upset, telling her she'll be back as soon as she puts the clothes up, not leaving so happily, actually trying to talk to her in her room when you know she's upset, all those would have helped the issue. Instead, she showed a lack of empathy on her part and then avoided her. Most people wouldn't have responded to an upset child in that manner, and for someone who has pretty much had two previous opportunities to learn to be mindful of others feelings even when you're stressed. That's why I think the SB's actions made sense and shouldn't be held against the episode. Rarity's actions, regardless of motive, went a long way in confirming what SB thought, that Rarity is always taking the spotlight from her no matter how hard she works. We know that it's not her intention, and get an It's a Wonderful Life sequence to show it to Sweetie, but at the time Rarity's actions gave her no reason to not be upset. Yes, she is a child, children can be irrational and she was here, that's why it's typically up to the adult to help them through it. Rarity didn't, so Luna stepped in (I guess every time a filly is helped, a princess gets her wings). Except she didn't really have a valid reason to be upset (at least with Rarity) in the first place. Rarity gave Sweetie Belle exactly what she asked for which was an upgrade in costume designs. There is absolutely now way either one of them could have predicted how the crowd would have reacted to every aspect of the play. If all the crowd remembered were the costumes, then those weren't the problem. And I feel an impasse here too, because now I'm starting to repeat myself.

And after seeing this episode, I give it a 9. One of the better episodes of the season.

She was angry at being upstaged, with a history of thinking that Rarity got all of the attention, and Rarity pretty much ignored her feelings and left. It's about as much justification as a 10-year-old needs, to be honest. It doesn't have to be complex, it just has to make sense within the concept of the story.

Now all we need is Princess Luna visiting Apple Bloom one of these days.

And like I said, just because it fits within the concept of the story doesn't automatically make her in the right. It was all just one giant misunderstanding that's been brewing for so many years.

I would bet all those bitchy friends at her birthday party left Sweetie as soon as they got their cutie marks.
