Speaking of Ryder, Ryder. He was actually a heel until his youtube show happened.

Why on Earth Orton ended up being the Face in the Legacy feud is beyond me. They had 2 great chances to turn both Rhodes and DiBiase and its ORTON that became the face after nearly a year of abuse and using them.

The problem was that Orton was getting such a strong babyface reaction, they couldn't turn him heel. The fans choose Orton.

Yeah, in 2003. They tried to keep him heel, but it wasn't working. In 2005, I thought for sure that the heel turn wouldn't work, but working off of Rey made it possible. And in 2003, didn't that happen after he beat the hell out of Tajiri the week before? It was right after Eddie/Tajiri lost the tag titles and they were trying to turn Eddie heel for the US title tournament. Eddie threw Tajiri into the windshield of a lowrider and the crowd still loved him. Eddie was only heel for about 2-3 weeks before it was dropped and they had to turn Rhyno heel for the US title feud after the tournament. How about Batista in 2004? I remember big Dave getting a good reaction with the crowd and thanks to how terrible Orton's face turn was booked we got HHH/Batista at wrestlemania instead of HHH/Orton.

You're right that 2005 was when he really broke out and Batista turning face was pretty much a done deal. If they didn't need to wait for WM 21 I'm sure Batista would have turned face sooner and could have even won the belt in the EC at NYR.

Val Venis was turned face pretty quickly, mainly because his character was just so over-the-top, people started liking him.

The Rock's Hollywood Heel character really happened after he got booed big time for his via satellite appearance on the Raw 10th anniversary show

The Rock's Hollywood Heel character really happened after he got booed big time for his via satellite appearance on the Raw 10th anniversary show Yet the crowd cheerer him as Hollywood Rock. Rock was also booed out of the building at SummerSlam the year prior. He cut a heel promo on the crowd, too, after the show went off the air.

Eve Torres during Ryder's push. That heel turn was uncomfortable, because Eve got heel heat before she even cut that promo on using Ryder.

Wow, I didn't know that he cut a heel promo on them despite still being a face. is there footage of this anywhere?

In fairness keeping Rhodes heel resulted in two of his best runs after the Legacy split. As for Ted...eh, there was never any hope for that guy whether as a face or a heel. Total scrub.

I've not seen a promo, but I know that on the Rock's last documentary DVD they showed footage of him making douchey hand gestures and facial expressions at the crowd on his way out.
