When someone says "-insert name here- was lost in the ring" I can't help but wonder what kind of an insult it is, are the trying to say that the ring is like TV series Lost? I'm pretty sure that if a wrestler is in the ring then they know what the hell they're doing which makes the whole "Lost in the ring" jab as pointless as a Youtube comment.

It's code for being clueless. Like how Eva Marie appears in matches. The phrase been around longer than most of the posters on this forum.

It means they are at a loss on what to do.
Not like they don't know how to get out of it...

Gotcha, but unintentionally clueless because people like Luke Harper look clueless with those almost constant glazed over eyes when it's very obvious that he knows what he's doing in the ring.

Yea, it's kind of obvious what this means. Unless you take everything literally, then most of wrestling lingo wouldn't make sense.
Buried- "What are you talking about? Londrick are both alive and well and Triple H isn't in jail for murder."
Jobber - "Why does everyone harp on Ryder doing his job but not on Cena?"
Good/Bad Worker- "I guess people like Luke Harper, Cesaro and Daniel Bryan are good workers because they look like lumberjacks or some shit. Warrior was a bad worker because he clearly was too insane for a real job."

Not like they don't know how to get out of it... This just made me picture Eva Maria desperately trying to get out of the ring, looking at the ropes in confusion, trying to climb them but failing to figure out how to, that made me laugh. Thank you.

The term's been around for decades. As to "If they're in the ring, they must know what they're doing", there are many examples of people being put out there who are not only clueless due to stage fright (which can be understandable to a degree) but who can be dangerous since they are undertrained.

It's actually a pretty logical, reasonable term with a solid root in American slang from the mid-Twentieth century slang but sure, we'll go with your thing.

Imagine you had a speech to give in front of 100 people. Halfway through the speech, you forget the rest of the words and you don't know what to say. I would say that's the equivalent of being "lost" in the ring.

Haven't you ever heard someone say someone else is lost and confused? "Lost" has always been used to describe someone who doesn't know what to do.

Alec Baldwin once said his favorite curse word is "Assbag". That's pretty dumb.

Jackie Gayda knew exactly what she was doing in THAT Jackie Gayda match. She was just trying to look clueless to get some serious heat, but she had it all under control.

It isn't a wrestling term.
You hear it all the time. Like, if someone's just sort of standing there during a basketball game. "Dude looks lost out there."
