I don't see the issue really.
The revisionist historians make out that this completely killed kayfabe.
Truth is Kayfabe had been dead a long time with WWF itself breaking it on TV many times leading up to the curtain call. (go back and watch the 1996 slammy awards which was before the curtain call)
Like Nash says there it was no big deal until a bunch of old timers got annoyed (no doubt the sort of people like J.R and Jim Cornette who even in 2014 let alone 1996 haven't gotten over the death of kayfabe and still complain about things "exposing the business")
