Hot off the heels of ASM II making him feel incredibly tired of the Spidey brand, The Escapist's Moviebob points out the strengths of the infamous third outing in the Raimi series.
I do like his point about Spidey being cool only because Peter...well...isn't, and how Tobey plays the puny Parker aspects to perfection. Still doesnt convince me the movie was great, indeed the whole thing is pretty depressing with zero upswing throughout and that's one thing the recent ASM movie isn't as there is no feeling of spite and the routine flip-flopping of the characters has lots of logic to it,

He lost me at 2:30. Andrew has Tobey beaten, and this is someone who liked Tobey as Spider-Man. Comparing Garfield to Pattinson is absurd, at least I can actually get legitimate emotion from Garfield. If anything, he's the anti-Pattinson. Garfield pulled off the dweeby aspect of Peter's character just as good as Macguire did.
He's right about Simmons, Franco, and Aunt Mae, they were all done right in that series. I do agree that Bryce was a good choice as Gwen, but I feel they got her character all wrong. Topher is a terrible Eddie Brock, I'd much rather have a douchy, bad ass Eddie than a Peter clone. Idc if James Cromwell is in the movie, he does nothing, he adds nothing. He may as well have not even been in the damn thing.
I agree about Sandman being good, I liked his character and wish he had been given more screen time and focus. I also didn't mind the dancing Peter stuff and completely agree with the ending about the symbiote. Otherwise, Spider-Man 3 is a trainwreck. It doesn't know what it wants to be. Characters are introduced and discarded, there is some development but not enough. There is way too much going on for how little time it has.
It is the worst in the series and the worst of the 5 movies. Sony should've either fired Raimi or Raimi should've stood his guns. I knew it was doomed in late-2004 and while I did like it when I saw it in 2007, my 2011 re-watch just killed it for me. It has some high points, but just too much negatives for me to even like it. To say ASM 2 is worse is insane, compared to what SM 3 was.
If anything, a good parallel for that movie is Batman Forever and Superman 3. Films that were supposed to be big follow-ups that turn into a bloated mess, but have some redeeming qualities. Either way, I was right about Spider-Man 3.

He says that Venom is just a boring '90s villian, but Venom debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #299, which came out in April 1988. He should do more research.

Speaking as someone who does likes Spider Man 3, I know from second hand experience this guy is dumb.

No I wasn't, I thought that it was an over-stuffed mess that had the pieces for two or so better movies within it, but still was enjoyable on some level, even as the weakest of the franchise.
I'm still right Moviebob, whoever ya are. You're wrong about Amazing 2. It certainly has its flaws, no question, but a worse movie than 3? Nope.

Yeah this... I can't comment on Amazing Spider-man 2 or Garfield's preformance as I haven't watched either movie... but yeah Spider-man 3 was a mess Sony should have just left Raimi alone to tell the story he wanted it would have come off much better.

I usually like Moviebob, but reading these comments here I do agree with the sentiment towards this vid. He pokes ASM II with a sharp stick way too much almost as if he's underestimated the attitudes of people towards it. I don't think he's prepared to consider the fact a lot of us know that movie could be better, but it's above and beyond the worst of the series or much more flawed comic book movies.

He's right about Maguire being better than Garfield (its not even close honestly) and Venom sucking. Spider-man 3 is a mess, but its a fun mess that still made you care about the core characters. The Amazing Spider-man was just dull (can't comment on the sequel since I haven't seen it yet).

Why do we need these e-celeb circle jerk threads on the boards? They have comments sections on their own websites, no need to spread their bullshit in a place I actually like.
Also moviebob's standards are hilariously low for a critic as far as I can tell, the guy defended the Star Wars prequels and The Last Airbender but slagged off reasonably decent movies like the Robocop remake and Man of Steel because they don't conform to his specific tastes. And that's not even getting into how much a mark he is for himself, the guy wrote a f***ing novelized Let's Play for Super Mario Bros and threw a fit when nobody cared.

How would you guys rank the Spidey movies? I still think Spider-Man 2 with Maguire is the best one ever. However, part 3 is pretty bad.
1. Spider-Man 2 2. The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Spider-Man 4. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 5. Spider-Man 3

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about that book. Didn't it have a bunch of pages of his sob story and him comparing the cultural impact of 9/11 to that of the release of Mario 3?
