I'm giving it a 9. I thought the first part started off kinda slow, but it kicked into full gear by part 2.

That's what I thought as well, but it kicked into SUCH A HIGH GEAR in Part 2 I gave it 10.

So I gave this episode a 10 and I would've given both parts a 10 separately. Easily goes into my top 5. It had a big, epic storyline with some awesome battles while also staying true to the series' themes. Also Twilight and her Small Council have really nice new digs. Tirek was also a really good villain with a cool voice.

Honestly I can't think of anything I disliked about this two-parter. It was practically perfect.

I also forgot to mention that they seemed rather quick to forgive Discord. After all, he did commit treason. But on the other hand if he didn't then he wouldn't have gotten that medallion thingy and Twilight wouldn't have gotten her key...

Well he did see the errors of his ways. And yes, he did give Twilight her key.

It's a lot better than what I was expecting, but it still had a few moments that rubbed me the wrong way, and even those are minor.

The good:

-Loved the continuity with Tirek's final "Look" and Scorpan's design in the flashback
-suggesting that earth ponies' ties to the lands are magical was a nice touch
-Discord's betrayal we saw coming, but it made sense - he's had to "Behave" himself under the watch of the ponies he once terrorized.
-nice touch at the end with the call backs to those the group had helped
-THANK GOD THAT TWILIGHT'S KEY WAS AN OBJECT AND NOT A CONCEPT

-When Tirek and Twilight were fighting, I'm surprised Tirek didn't even just TRY to drain her before showing he had her friends imprisoned. As he was gaining power, when a unicorn attacked him he simply soaked it up. Did he not think he could handle that here?
-I understand the how, the why, and the logic about how all this fell into place but some of the stuff with Twilight still bugs me. That's just me. It makes sense, it's part of the show, her talent is magic, etc etc etc.......

I'll give it a 9. Perfectly fine season finale, but I didn't LOVE love it the way I did with Best Night Ever and Canterlot Wedding.
