Noob question: I am from Kansas and I am currently following my first full season of the NHL (watched playoffs in the past). How do people feel about the the 14-16 conference split? I have aligned myself with the Winny Jets and think our division is really tough. Also, what are the odds of NHL expanding? I find this highly unlikely. Well, first off, let me just officially welcome you into the greater hockey family. It's always great to see another new member, especially considering that it seems that you're an American(I assume) rooting for the Winnipeg Jets. Very cool. As far as the split goes, I'd like it to be even. I feel like it's 50-50 though split along conference lines. People who like Western teams(like myself) would like to like see the teams split evenly, while those out East, by in large are content with the 16-14 split. I know the two teams that moved from West to East(Columbus, Detroit) were and are still glad to have moved to the East due to travel reasons. The NHL could very well expand and a lot sooner than you think. There are three very strong areas rumored to get teams either via relocation or expansion. Those three cities are Seattle, Quebec City, and Las Vegas. Relocation is much more likely, but expansion is also strongly rumored. There are also rumblings of the GTA(Greater Toronto Area) getting a second team somewhere in the suburbs much like how it is in Southern California with the Kings and Ducks. We'll see how that goes, though.

I know the two teams that moved from West to East(Columbus, Detroit) were and are still glad to have moved to the East due to travel reasons. Warning typed this on my phone. The NHL could very well expand and a lot sooner than you think. There are three very strong areas rumored to get teams either via relocation or expansion. There are also rumblings of the GTA(Greater Toronto Area) getting a second team somewhere in the suburbs much like how it is in Southern California with the Kings and Ducks. We'll see how that goes, though. I honestly don't see the NHL expanding just yet soon. There are reports the salary cap won't increase this year (Chicago you are screwed), Florida lost $114,000 per day last season and constantly bleeding money like its even more likely they are losing more then last year with reported lower attendances and price drops and a 65 million dollar roster, Arizona are on their second year under new ownership where their is a clause they had to stay in Glendale for at least five years and the owners (RSE) couldn't make it through a second season and are minority owners of the team, and Seattle is taking their sweet long ass time building a new arena and like this is Edmonton levels of bad of a slow new arena project and they are a city without a arena tenant! Also the NHL loves it when cities already built vacant new arenas before they are interested. So yeah the NHL needs to fix the Florida and Arizona situation first since they are starting to effect the league that they can't even afford to raise the salary cap. It would make sense geographically to move Florida to Quebec (poor Tampa) where they can play in the same division once their arena is completed and move Phoenix to either Seattle or Portland or Vegas (their arena will be done in two years) in three more arenas when the no move clause expires. I just see Florida and Arizona being moved before an expansion happens and if there is a expansion after I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being 15 teams in the west and 17 teams in the east. I do think Vegas is risky since their business model is to target Canadians on vacationing in the strip where a flight and ticket to the game ends up being overall cheaper then seeing a home game in their home even if they live in the f***ing city. But I think they'll do better then Florida or Arizona, they need to study the Tampa/Nashville/St. Louis playbook on how to make a team work in a small and non traditional market work.

Isles getting some revenge on the Avs tonight for the drubbing 2 weeks ago.
Team's streak of not being scored upon approaching 160 minutes now.

BREAKING: The Devils get a couple of players back from injury, lose Salvador to a "lower body injury", and actually win a game.
Now keep it up! The Metro is gonna probably be a mess all season long.

Penguins had a 7-game win streak, but then they ran into a wall. Lundqvist and the Rangers shut them out 5-0. Nash also got his league-leading 12th goal of the season.

Losing at Detroit sucks even more when you only play them twice a year now.

Well it wasn't a shutout, and it didn't end in regulation, but the Rangers win the game in the shootout...at least that was the original call. Winning goal was deemed no goal and the Penguins win after another round was added.

Montreal won last night and I'm pissed off. there was a point in the game where 2 Flyers players flat out fell on Price and the stupid ref didn't blow the play dead. so of course the Flyers score and for some idiot reason it doesn't get pulled back. f***ing stupid. that's the kind of shit that ended Grant Fuhr's career.

Game Day Prediction. Gagner has a nine point night and Dubnyk gets a shut out.

Nice home win for the Hawks, 6-2 over the Stars. Now for a six game road trip to finish out the month, visiting Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Colorado, Anaheim and Los Angeles. Around nine points from that trip should be fine.

Well Dubnyk nearly got a shut out and played really well. Like holy shit he wasn't flopping around like a moron and seemed to actually use his size. It also shows Oilers really need to fire their goalie coach Chabot because that was the best I've ever seen Dubnyk play. Plus he's doing well and all. Speaking of shitty coaches Eakins coached his 100th game and now has 65 losses. He's on pace to be the fastest coach to reach 100 career losses.
