There are a myriad of options to finger the blame for the poor attendance at Chicago's Hockey City Classic, but I can't help but shake this feeling that we're starting to see the beginning of the slow death of the cache of outdoor hockey, and I blame the NHL's Stadium Series. www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-hockey-soldier-field-spt-0208-20150207-story.htmlThe Winter Classic was one of the rare things that the NHL did flawlessly. It drew huge ratings, sold out stadiums, and became must-watch television every New Year's Day. But naturally, the league got fat and happy and thought there was no way they could oversaturate the market. With four Stadium Series games last season, one this year, and two in 2015-16, I can't help but feel like the appeal of outdoor stadium hockey has lost a lot of its luster. I think the only way outdoor games can get any luster anymore is if they hold the games in a market that doesn't have an NHL franchise. Like maybe host an outdoor game at SafeCo Field or Lambeau Field. Heck, could it be possible to host it at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway? And hey, 2016 will mark 25 years since the first official NHL outdoor game between the Kings and Rangers in Vegas, why not host a rematch there to celebrate it? If the Toledo Walleye could have an outdoor game, it'd only be fair that the IMS hockey match also feature Notre Dame hockey and a doubleheader featuring all 3 Indiana ECHL teams (Indy, Fort Wayne, and Evansville). That's a great idea, but it ain't gonna happen. The NHL will probably have an event in freakin' Miami Beach before that happens! Also, Las Vegas has been granted permission to start selling season tickets for a potential NHL club as early as the 2016-17 season. Considering the ECHL Wranglers have officially folded, it is an open market. But do you guys see the NHL expanding to 32 or even 34 clubs in a decade?

Would Tyler Myers and Dustin Byfuglien be the biggest Defensive pairing ever? If so I hope Winnipeg hires Howard Finkel to introduce them on the ice like a WWE Tag Team like if they are Big Show and Kane.

Kane really needs to go to Florida or New York, where either his boneheaded antics are just part of the scene or nobody gives a damn what he does because no one knows who he is. At least he's done embarrassing a Canadian team.

He's ok defensively and offensively. Overall he's mediocre at best.

At least he's done embarrassing a Canadian team. You do know that in New York everything a player does or doesn't do is put under a microscope Brad Richards for example didn't do what was expected of him and fans didn't like him for it. If Kane pulled any of that stuff on the Rangers or islanders fans would hate him so really New York is a worse place for him to be

Honestly I don't think Kane will succeed under the pressure of being Buffalos counted upon franchise player. Well either McDavid or Eichel will be the franchise player but evander Kane is expected to be the veteran. If he couldn't make it in Winnipeg I doubt he'll make it in Buffalo

If he and Paul Maurice couldn't get along, no chance he gets on with Teddy.

This I accidentally posted in the Solomon Crowe thread... have no idea why, although I had two threads up for posting. Anyway, here I go... Ontario Reign unveil their AHL logo for next season. The ECHL logo was much, much better.

I have a feeling Ted Nolan may like him cause he's really Buffalos only true skilled player but he's going to be counted on to generate offense with either Eichel or McDavid and only an elite generational talent winger like Ovechkin or Jagr can generate their entires team offense consistently.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenseman Cody Franson and forward Mike Santorelli to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Olli Jokinen, Brendan Leipsic and a first-round draft pick in 2015.

Nashville Predators top six is insanely stacked now. Weber, Josi, Franson, Ellis, Volchenkov, Jesus Christ! Anyways was this really the best trade toronto could get? A high first round pick, a UFA on a career on the decline, and prospect that seems to be tracking good so far but unproven

Methinks Olli will be traded alongside Phil Kessel in a future blockbuster.

Firstly, consider the number of guys who the Leafs have let walk for nothing in the past few years. I like Franson a lot, but the Leafs couldn't afford him. It's a shame they dicked him around time and time again when it came to negotiations and didn't sign him to a cheap extension when they had the chance. He gets Marc Staal money in the summer. Santorelli is a good soldier, too, and I'd like to see the Leafs try to bring him back in the summer. Leipsic is sort of a Brendan Gallagher-type with some upside, so that sounds alright. As for Jokinen, he was a throw-in that represents $2.5M coming off of the books in the summer. I doubt he even plays a game with the Leafs.

It wasn't easy at all, but the Rangers finally beat the Islanders 6-5 and are now in striking distance to take the top of the Metro.

Steve Moses just made a scoring record in KHL with 36 goals this year. Reportedly multiple NHL teams are interested in him, but his small size might play against him.
