Okay, assuming you're right with your statement. You mean to tell me that these grown men and women who officiate these games are afraid of some idiotic fans calling in death threats? It's not like they're actually going to carry out their threats. It's true that EVERY superstars receive gimmie calls and I'm not disputing that or your statement. What I am saying once again is that there appears to be a lot of intense favoritism, coverage, and a lot of bailout calls that have benefitted the Heat in every scenario. If a player goes near Lebron or Wade it's a foul, if the opposing defender flops they're fined, however, if Lebron, Wade, Bosh, or Battier flops officials look the other way or reward them with a call. It's just a sickening display of bias that I feel has hurt the legitimacy of the game in my opinion. It's true that Dirk, Paul, Kobe, Duncan, etc receive those calls and it's wrong for them to receive help like that too. These are professional athletes who are considered to be some of the best in the world when it comes to their sport. They do not need any help from the league or officials. Whether they intend to carry it out or not, the amount of harassment that fans levy at officials when things don't go their way is pretty well documented, to the point where officials will give a close call to the home team if it means not having shit thrown at them and getting harassed at all hours of the night. For the second part, you said you get all your information from what people on Facebook say, so how would you even know that the Heat are really getting all these bailout calls? Fans always bitch about officiating in every single sport, are they always automatically right? Can we really say that the Heat are getting more calls when San Antonio has shot more free throws than them this series? Afterall, what better way to bail out a team than help them get more gimme points? But San Antonio shot twice as many free throws than Miami in game 1, and they were only off by 1 in game 2. Yeah, that definitely points to the league favoring the Heat doesn't it? And again, all this pretty much ignores that if the league was really pulling all these strings, then we wouldn't be seeing a Miami/San Antonio or Miami/OKC final. Why go for the small markets when LA and Houston were both on the cusp this year, both massively bigger markets. If the league were really pulling the strings, then why screw the Lakers out of Chris Paul? The Lakers are one of their biggest franchises. And if the league was really pulling all these strings, then why the f*** do the Knicks suck so damn much. You know how much money there would have been in a Lakers/Heat final? Kobe vs. Lebron to see if the torch should be passed? If the league is pulling these strings in this vast conspiracy, then they suck ass at it, because with that power we should be seeing much bigger tv markets than the ones playing right now.

I don't follow any of the other major leagues very closely, but does anyone else think the NBA has more poorly informed, casual "fans" than a lot of other leagues?

@howardbeck Meanwhile, the NBA just fined Dwyane Wade $5k for flopping last night.

Things still have to be ironed out, but it looks like Derek Fisher will be the next head coach of the Knicks.

Newly self-appointed head coach Flip Saunders called out Kevin Love in a recent radio interview stating that Love has "no right to be frustrated."
"Just like I told [Kevin] Garnett, he didn’t have a right to be frustrated," said Saunders. "Why does any player have a right to be frustrated? You’re either part of the problem or part of the solution.

Yeah, Flip's approach to keeping Kevin Love in Minnesota is going to work out perfectly.
Honestly, I think he's pulling a Dan Gilbert and trying to soften the blow for their fans. Give them a target of rage when Love leaves instead of them turning on the franchise over it. If that's it, it's weirdly brilliant.

Does that mean we can expect a rant from Flip Saunders complete with Comic Sans font?

The Cavaliers should be thanking their lucky stars, because in my opinion, they just dodged a major bullet. John Calipari is a great college recruiter and pretty good college coach, but his act would fall flat in the NBA, just as it did in the past. Let's be honest, the only reason an NBA franchise is going to be gunning for John Calipari is because they think he can recruit LeBron James to opt out of his contract in Miami to join him wherever he goes. However, there was a zero percent chance of LeBron returning to Cleveland before Calipari was the head coach and there would have been a zero percent chance of LeBron returning to Cleveland had Calipari taken the Cavaliers' offer. If LeBron ultimately does opt out of his contract this summer, it's for one of two reasons: 1) he's going to another tailor-made championship contender, not a reclamation project or 2) he's going to re-sign with Miami for more money.

Derek Fisher?
Man... ever since Phil Jackson took over, I've heard almost as much about the Knicks in the last 3 months as the Pacers collapse.

Here's hoping Derek Fisher is a good coach for the Knicks. The East as a whole needs a shot in the arm to become more competitive. As much as Heat has held a monopoly lately, I don't even put the full blame on them hoarding all stars. Paul Pierce's Celtics dissolved, Derrick Rose's constant injuries have completely taken the Bulls out of the picture, and Pacers got exposed as the "Lucky to be here" team in the Conference Finals. @howardbeck Meanwhile, the NBA just fined Dwyane Wade $5k for flopping last night. *conspiracy excuse in two posts upcoming* Well that can't be right, the NBA lets the Heat get away with everything. But yeah, these fines are still an absolute joke. If I'm not mistaken Wade makes at least 17 million a year on his contract alone. Charging a petty fine won't discourage anyone from stopping.

Paul Pierce's Celtics dissolved, Derrick Rose's constant injuries have completely taken the Bulls out of the picture, and Pacers got exposed as the "Lucky to be here" team in the Conference Finals. The Celtics didn't really dissolve, they just reached their expiration date. From the moment the Kevin Garnett trade was finalized in July 2007, it was with the idea that the Celtics were operating under a three-year window. They won a championship in year one, they were a Kevin Garnett knee injury away from repeating in year two, and they ran out of gas in game seven of the NBA Finals in year three. But then after the 2010 Finals, Danny Ainge decided to give them another three-year window. They got whomped by Miami in the 2011 conference semifinals, pushed the Heat to the limit in the 2012 conference finals, and last year they were well past the breaking point, getting eliminated by the lowly Knicks in the conference quarterfinals. But as it stands now, the East is Miami's to lose for at least another two years unless LeBron flees in free agency this summer.

I find that to be unlikely, or to be specific him jumping ship to a team in the West. I know for a while people kept throwing the pipe dream of Lebron replacing Kobe in the Lakers but I can't see him wanting to have to run through both OKC and the Spurs to even make it to the Finals.

Some cap projections have the Lakers at nearly $26 million under the salary cap for next season, so they have the dollars to spend and the incentive of the bright lights of Los Angeles to attract a marquee free agent or two. They could make a legitimate push at LeBron James if they wanted to. At the end of the day though, I expect LeBron to opt out and see what kind of offers are available, before ultimately using it as leverage to re-sign with the Heat for more money. I would be stunned to see him anywhere other than Miami at the start of the 2014-15 season. (Psst, hey LeBron, if the Celtics can trade away Jeff Green and Brandon Bass, they'll have a lot of cap space, too...)

If the league really wants to cut the flopping out they need to suspend players for a game. Right now someone that makes millions of dollars a year losing $5k or 10k is a small price to pay for maybe helping your team get 2 free throws in an importnat playoff game. If a player knew he would be out the next game no way anyone would flop aside from maybe a bottom of the bench guy in a crucial playoff game. If I want to watch athletes resort to that bullshit I can watch soccer. It's honestly sickening the last 2-3 years how now the Vlade Divac exception is now like several dudes on each team and even then they are actually resorting to shit even he didn't do.

It should be like the NHL where the fine is relative to your salary, like a max contract guy would receive a much harsher fine for the same offense compared to a bench-warmer. I'd only reserve suspensions for those who have already been fined a bunch of times. Otherwise that's way too harsh.
