The year was 1999. Bill Clinton was in the White House. The Slim Shady LP dropped. The Spurs won the NBA Championship. Jesse Ventura was sworn in as the Governor of Minnesota. The world feared the Y2K problem. More important than all that bullshit, the Monday Night Wars were raging on as WCW and WWF were locked in a fight to the death. Stars were stolen, titles were hot-shotted, and you bet your ass that metaphorical throats were cut. It was a rather eventful time for the wrestling business. Sadly, I never saw much of it. You see, I didn’t start watching wrestling until 2002 meaning that I completely missed the Attitude Era. While I’ve gone back and watched bits and pieces of the era on Youtube, there is still so much that I’ve never actually sat down and watched. Hell, there is a ton of good wrestling that I missed out on. Now, thanks to the WWE Network, I can go back and watch much of what I missed. After deciding to start with WWF PPV’s in 1999, I figured, “hey, why not take FAN on the ride with me?” I’m sure a good chunk of the board was watching in 99’ while four year old me was doing non-wrestling related things. Relive the past as I go over these shows with fresh eyes! Chime in with your personal memories of shows that get reviewed and things that were happening in the WWF during this time period. First review up will be of The Royal Rumble which featured the Rumble match (duh) and The Rock challenging Mick Foley for the WWF Championship in a brutal I-Quit match. I would like to end the OP on this note.

Oh shit, this should be good. I'd love to know if that shit holds up to fresh eyes. I'll be reading for sure.

Looking forward to it! Although I will say in advance that Foley/Rock's I Quit match is very, very tough to watch.

I was at St. Valentine's Day Massacre. My older cousin snook in Zima using a water bottle.

I am eagerly awaiting your thoughts on King of the Ring 1999. I remember this being one of the worst PPVs I have ever seen. I wonder if it has grown worse or better over time.

I can't wait for the commentary about a lot of the dregs of the Attitude Era midcard from that year's Royal Rumble.

Being eight at the time, I thought everything was amazing. Looking back at the shows...
Good luck.

What a show you're starting with. One amazing, but hard to watch match and then the worst Rumble of all time and a load of midcard bullshit. Also, you're only 18? Go f*** yourself, Magiconz, you young bastard!

Fully Loaded 1999 was the 1st PPV I ever attended live so it has a special place in my heart.

Stone Cold was the CEO at some point in 99. Shit went pretty haywire.

On the flip side, I cannot wait for the Fully Loaded 1999 review. A month after KotR, I think it's the best ppv of the year. This is also the first PPV my brother and I got on video tape, and completely wore it out.

Every single PPV sucked besides Summerslam. I just saved you 36 hours.
