Anyone else just hate how loud people can be during the day? I don't even work that odd hours (3-11), but I guess their odd enough to make it tough to sleep.
From 9-9 or so in my apartment complex it seems like it's dead quite. However, a couple days ago it sounded like people were throwing heavy machinery off a truck from about 10 a.m.-1 p.m. No idea what they were actually doing or what could make that sound, but it kept waking me up and just when I thought it had stop it would come back again.
Today someone next door has been hammering for hours. Idk what they are doing, but given the time and amount of hammering I'm guessing they're building the inventory of a furniture store.

Screaming, stomping, yelling child in the apartment below me. All of these apartments are only 1 bedroom so I'm not sure how that arrangement works.
Anyway, it usually stops if I stomp around.
Is it really that hard to control your children nowadays?

When I was working late evenings (usually 4PM-midnight), I would sometimes get woken up around 10AM by the young kids of one of my neighbors who allowed them to run around the hallways of the apartment building with their toys like it was their own backyard. One would always trip and scream very loudly.

I've took hiatuses from work and I'm just fortunate I have really good considerate tenants considering how paper thin the walls are. It only gets loud from 6pm-10pm on Friday's because one guy who is blaring Audioslave and other 90's Alt Rock but he only does it once a week on a Friday so nobody minds.

Earplugs are the investment. When I did night shift though, it was pretty much a 13 hour day. One day, I went 16 hours because I had to drive someone into town and such.

When I worked nights, I had to black out the windows with tin foil and wear ear plugs. There was just no other way.

Earplugs are the only way to survive. Get good rubber ones not the free ones you steal from your work that are spongy.
10pm to 6:30am 6 times a week with an hour commute each way was my hassle.
I in good conscience can't recommend drinking but finger on nose... a couple beers after work were just as helpful for me as the soft rubber ear plugs.

Years ago I worked 5pm-5am four days a week. When I moved into a new apartment I was not told the 1st floor was a daycare from 8am-5pm. Apparently their number one activity was banging pots and pans together. That was a terrible year.

I work 11:00pm to 7:30am, and pretty much mirror everything 'Fed said. Except I had a couple shots of vodka. That helped.
And blocking out every bit of light in the bedroom.

It wasn't so bad in my last apartment, I had quiet neighbours and lived in a quiet neighbourhood.
Where I live now, there's a busy Main Street in front of the apartment, and the open air section of a bar behind it (which my bedroom overlooks). I'm contemplating finding a day job simply because the rent is so reasonable compared to everywhere else in Exeter.

For almost 20 years I have slept days and been up nights. I find sleeping with music or the tv going helps drown out noises.

Oh yes tv... One of my old tricks if not using earplugs was movie comentaries. Usually Bond films.

I work 6 to 4:30 AM and usually end up sleeping at some point between 1 and 5:30 PM (a few days ago it was 4:00 PM to 5:30). I take Unisom, and have never had a problem sleeping with light or noise, so it's no big deal...

White noise maker. Invest in one. It just sounds like static or buzzing and blocks out all else. Mine plays steady rain sounds and I sleep like a baby. Jack up the AC and hibernate
