What always confuses me about people's argument that "Batman wouldn't quit" with the Dark Knight Rises, especially from comic book fans, is one thing... Dark. Knight. Returns. Something Rises is clearly basing some of it's material on and something alot of Batman fans love, and consider one of the better Batman stories ever told. In it, Bruce quit. Iirc, Bruce quit that after an entire lifetime of being Batman. In the movie's isn't he actually the Batman for less than two years total time? Nolan Batman doesn't seem as dedicated to cleaning up the city as he does cleaning up the city for a while, until I decide I'd rather get laid and hang out in Europe. Which is what Bruce Wayne pretends to do to not appear to Batman.

Did he eventually return to the cowl? Yes. But he did retire, and it felt very in character. Much like his retirement, both times, in Dark Knight Rises felt for me. That said, could I see the Nolanverse Batman ever suiting back up like his comic book counterpart? Yeah, actually. Much like most of Nolan's main characters in his works, Bruce was obviously an obsessed man. I could very well see him eventually reach a tipping point again and throwing the suit back on. And, given the state of him and the Nolanverse, I have to imagine it would end just as well for him as it did for the DKReturns Bruce. Also in No Man's Land (another story Rises draws heavily upon) Bruce quits being Batman for a little while after Gotham was deemed NML. And when he returned he had to relearn everything about the city, since it had changed so much with the earthquake, kinda like Batman had to relearn about facing his fears in Rises. Also Knightfall Bruce contemplates quitting and letting Azreal be Batman until he finds out Azbat is insane and responsible for the death of a criminal. Also Mask of The Phantasm he almost quits before he starts. I could go on...

Planet Of The Apes (Burton) Planet Of The Apes (Burton) Funny thing is he doesn't get the ending either I always assumed Mark Wahlberg's character thought he was propelled into the future and tried to use the same wormhole/storm/whatever to go back in time and ended up being propelled even further into the future of the ape world. I just assume that it was Burton's version of the "It was our planet! Damn you! Damn you all to hell!" ending that the original PoTA had. the ending to Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes i defy you to name another bug hollywood blockbuster with a more nonsensical ending. ... APE Lincoln... That's it. That's the joke. /McBain Voice

Nolan Batman doesn't seem as dedicated to cleaning up the city as he does cleaning up the city for a while, until I decide I'd rather get laid and hang out in Europe. Which is what Bruce Wayne pretends to do to not appear to Batman. Like others have said, actually he only quit after Jason died in DKR. So, he would've been mid-30's max by that point and only been working as Batman for about a decade max. Nevermind, like others pointed out, the in canon times Batman's quit or tried to retire in the comics too. Beyond that, you are making assumptions about the Nolanverse Batman. Yes, he faked his death. Yes, he was last seen in Europe and yes, he picked a successor. But as shown in the movie itself, his body was wrecked and he still came back when his city needed him. And, we don't know what he's actually doing now that he's presumed dead. The movie doesn't show us that. For all we know, Bruce could be meeting up with not Robin and training him, getting him ready to be the next Batman. Setting up Gotham so it always has a protector while having the retirement he earned.

American Psycho. Didn't know what was going on the whole movie, then it ended without resolving anything. WTF. Actually, it resolved everything. The conversation Patrick has with James Remar's character tells the audience that absolutely nothing Bateman did actually happened. The resolution was that Patrick Bateman was a delusional. I thought that it meant what Bateman did, actually happened. Bateman's lawyer didn't even know who he was, a common theme of the movie was mistaken identity, so Bateman's lawyer didn't actually have dinner with Paul. There was also Paul's apartment where the real estate broker knew Bateman was up to something, and the day planner his secretary found.

Yeah I hated a lot about this movie but especially that ending. Someone on here stated that Alfred should've been royally pissed during that ending. I can understand why they did it - being able to see Bruce content and happy (and with Selina) was a fine way to end his story - but Alfred smiling and nodding and that's it would've worked too. Nolan may've learned that lesson (or known well enough not to be vague with comic book dorkz) and applied it to INCEPTION instead.

Not that I was expecting great things from a Kevin Smith movie but I rented Red State expecting a horror satire of the Westboro Baptist Church. I got this for the first third of the movie, then it turned into a noisy shoot-out action movie and then as if they had run out of budget, John Goodman had to tell us the ending in a monologue. Most bafflingly broken movie I have ever seen.

I think Burton's PotA's ending would have worked better had there been a sequel.

The first time I watched The Birds as a teenager, my reaction to the ending was 'WTF?'
Same with the first time I watched No Country for Old Men.
Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls, though I don't know what I would have expected otherwise. I'm not talking about the epilogue.
Yes, Burton's Planet of the Apes.

The Village. It was a mediocre thriller until then the "twist" ending rendered the whole movie pointless.
Kinda like a thriller if it had been written by Vince Russo.

Bruce (the character he projects to society) is a mix of Donald Trump and a Hilton. So in other words, he's very famous, and even in the movies makes the front pages of papers. So in other words how could he possibly just vanish. Someone would take a picture of him. After all it is implied he used that device he gave to Cat Women, to give him a clean start. The WORLDS GREATEST DETECTIVE is hanging out in a very popular cafe somewhere in Europe, which I assume is near a big city. How could he possibly be that stupid? If he were going to do that, would he not at least change his look? Although that same ending with Bruce wearing a bad disguise would just be hilarious.

American Psycho. Didn't know what was going on the whole movie, then it ended without resolving anything. WTF. Syriana and Jacob's Ladder are the same. Syriana I agree with. American Psycho and Jacob's Ladder's endings explain the entire movies. Especially Jacob's Ladder.

These are two movies I have only seen once so maybe I missed something but...
Eyes Wide Shut
The Departed - Everyone just kind of shot each other which I found comical.
