Have you ever had dreams that are so mundane you mistake them for reality? For instance, last night I dreamed I went grocery shopping, and at the last second I remembered I needed shampoo. That's it. That's the dream. I woke up while I was driving home in the dream, and realized, "It was a dream. I still need shampoo."
So.... yeah, ever have those mundane dreams?

Yeah, all the time. Although something weird or stupid happens in the dream, and I wake up and I immediately forget what happened.
All my other dreams revolve around me dying.

If I wake up too early, I will often go back to sleep and dream a virtual to-do list of things to do when I wake up. It's rather handy actually!
A lot of dreams are just these kinds of tapes I think, but some people say that even these dreams have a psychodynamic meaning based on what the content probably symbolizes. Shopping is a form of searching, reviewing your needs and how you should fulfill them. Shampoo takes off the dead skin and dandruff of your scalp--it's said to symbolize becoming a new person in some aspect, a sense of seeking growth and rebirth.
If I were a better grad student I would get a book written out of stuff like this; "Themes of Rebirth and Pert Plus."
