Just curious to see what people think about Ultimate Marvel? I'm torn......I liked Ultimate X-Men, and then it got all crappy with a flood of 20 new people on the team. Ultimate Spiderman has its moments, but I hate hate hate hate hate Bendis' writing style.....not everything needs a 6 issue arc. I hate comics with nothing but talking heads, and I don't like his depowered Spiderman who cannot for the life of him defeat anyone. He never wins his fights. He's like the Rey Mysterio of Superheroes.....and the 100 issue series has yet to produce any classic moments, for all of its hype. Gewn Stacy was a huge waste, since her death did nothing for the series. The new issue with Blade was great though. Ultimates is great overall.....but the fact that 6 months between issues kills it. Ultimate FF has its moments, I especially like the Frightful Four/Zombies......and the new issue has Doctor Doom in all of his badassery.....like the real Doctor Doom.....business is about to pick up. Ultimate Galactus was the biggest disappointment ever. Your thoughts on Ultimate Marvel?

I like Ult. Spider-man, though i agree, not everything has to be 6 issue arc. Hes still a kid and is not supposed to win every time. I was sad when Gwen had to die again.
I have a fear that even when loeb and Joe Madureira take over for Hitch and Millar, itll still be long whiles between issues. Joey Mad has been tarty before.
I havent kept up with Ult. FF. I only have the first issue.

I started reading comics through Ultimate Spiderman. Late start. I like it and think the chicks are super hot. black cat rules. I just played the video game the other day for the first time and really dig that so I'm goin with series, 6 book arcs and all. I also agree Gwen Stacy was a waste.
I bought a couple issues of ultimate FF. I like that too. I really like Ultimate Ultimates, that's a movie that needs to be made.
I really like The Amazing Spiderman series right now.

I dig Ult. Spidey as it's always a fun lil read, and I've always been a Mark Bagley fan and he gets better and better.. compare his pencils now to his earlier Amazing/ New Warriors stuff. He was good then, but he's leaps and bounds above that now. Plus it's cool to see he's kinda become the new Romita in that any of the new liscensed stuff bears the Bagley image, much like in the past everything was Jazzy John's.
I liked Ultimates as well not nearly as much as Spidey, but it's a fun read as well. And Hitch's art is the most too.
Never really got into Ultimate Xmen, and haven't really read any Ultimate FF so I can't comment much there. But overall I like it.

FF. I only have the first issue. Yeah, I agree he's a kid and should lose, but he gets pounded every single time, and either pulls out some fluke win, or Nick Fury shows up to save the day. Come on, he gets pregnant dog slapped by normal humans (Elektra). Its a comic book, I want to suspend belief and see the kid win. And i'm also tired of waiting until issue 5/6 to actually see the villain. But once again, I can't reitterate how cool the new Issue is. (spoiler) I marked out when Blade and Morbius showed up. I'm not a complete hater, but I dropped the book and check it out from time to time to see where it is. Ultimate Carnage's first appearance was really awesome. My thing with Gwen was that it was pointless. Nothing happened because of her death. Also, she didn't have to die at all....its Ultimate Marvel. I would have hopped on the ride had they killed Mary Jane. It just kind of showed Ultimate Marvel is still stuck to regular Marvel, people just have different costumes and origins.

And in case no one's noticed, I'm geeking out the boards tonight. Sorry to all who have to wade through my numerous posts on toys and comic books. I'm kind of like the ultimate geek when I really feel like it. It must seem like I'm on some sort of mission to gain the crown of head geek here ( I am...I have all these hobbies and my job is that of Internet programmer/designer). I'm just visiting home for the weekend, and I'm really bored because I realize how many friends I don't have anymore here.

Me too. I hate that they arent going to delve to far away from the 616 universe atleast with their big guns like spidey and ff. Some things will be tweaked but it wont radically change. I guess its for the purists who hated the concept of a new " universe" and just to say "Hey Spidey is still Spidey"

Thanks for the spoiler warning.
I read an ultimate novel that was set in the 30's - 60's. It starts off slow but it's actually a pretty good read. A totally different take on the whole thing.

I love 616 up until about '97 or so. 616 doesn't make any sense anymore, because no single book is linked to anything, books have no impact on each other, and the crossovers are weak at best. I can't think of anything that happened thats been huge in Marvel since Age of Apocalypse and Onslaught.....Age of Apocalypse was way cooler though.

I don't see the need myself. I'll stick with just the one story line based world. That's difficult enough to keep track of as it is.

616 has Gwen Stacy sleeping with Norman Osborne and have twins whove been aged to adulthood and Spidey is attracted to the girl twin. Now thats strange. Once that happen J. Michael Straczynski lost me for atleast a good while. JR Jr would have to come back to get me reading that. I absolutely dig his style.
Once Claremont left, it all went to the s***, IMO. It just lacked itself, X-men being my main focus as a kid. The whole thing just became to crossover friendly and became a b**** to keep up with and was a hassle to writers to keep everything as close to continuity as possible. For that Im glad the connectiveness has waned. I think Morrissons New X-Men was well-written, by and large, but you're right, nothing big has happened that Marvel keeps saying will or even has, lol.
The in-house hype is everywhere. Like in DC Identity Crisis. Yawn. People who have such limited fanbases are killed. Yeah. Its an absolute crime what they did to Sue Dibny. Someone whos so fanbase is so small, only people who loved Justice League International period would know her and they have her raped and killed. And what pissed me off most was when to "show" anything can happen, have lois lane get a letter you maybe next. Actually make her be next, have some guts.

You'll never see anyone on the level of a Lois Lane take a permanent dirtnap in the world of comics. EVER. The big iconic heroes will always always always go back to status quo eventually because they're pretty much folklore now. If you're readin mainstream superhero stuff for any kinda lasting change, you're in for a LOOOOOOONG wait.

That was the point of Ultimate Marvel......and they didn't even have the balls to run with it then. Thats was a failing point for Ultimate Marvel. Gwen Stacy didn't even have to die at all. When she did, it was of little consequence, anyways.

It's better than House of M Thats why I didnt even bother. I had a bad feeling about things when they retconned Polaris as Magnetos daughter. And the whole depowerment of mutants, of course no one of upper standard. 3 million get depowered or so and its not like any of them are in pages. Ultimates is probably the only one where it breaks the mold really.

Ultimates is cool like that. I really enjoy it because I get the feeling anyone can go or anything can happen at any second (the attack on america).
