I am very sad about this--I found out earlier today. And to think, I didn't even want to take her to the vet because I assumed she'd just been acting loopy because she wasn't getting along with the dog. I'm going to have give her insulin shots twice a day (and educate myself on the feline version of this disease). Anyone else on here have a cat with diabetes?

I didn't even realize cats could get diabetes.
That sucks, though, man. I feel for ya.

Sorry Slik81. I like to think of myself as rather well-informed about cats, but I did not know they could get diabetes or that they could take insulin for it. Not to be crass, but how much does feline insulin cost?

My brother has type 1 diabetes. He's been living with it for about 15 years.

Not to be crass, but how much does feline insulin cost? I didn't know either. I knew they could get arthiritis, but apparently both dogs and cats can get diabetes as well. I googled it when I got home to learn more about it. The insulin should end up being around $40 for a 2-3 month supply is what my vet told me.

My parents dog had diabetes. He lived 5 yrs with it. Died an old doggie. The diabetes was caught real late (dumbass vet) He went blind but adjusted very well. he knew the house, he knew outside. You wouldnt know that he was blind unless he was in unfamilar terretory and he still didnt bang into things. My mom had to give him a shot everyday and he didnt mind it.

my sisters cat has diabites I have to give him his shots when here family goes on vaction. He has lived with diabietes for the past 8 years and he has had a good life so far. Once your vet gets your cats insulin levels normalized they can return to the way they were before.

A friend of my late Grandfathers cat had diabetes and I due know its usually due to cats being indoor cats. Lack of exercise really does it for cats and dogs even more then humans.
