On the ad campaigns you hated topic someone brought up the subject of being subjected at school everyday to Channel 1 news which got me thinking about doing a topic dedicated to the garbage that is Channel 1 news. However that quite frankly would not be interesting so instead I think it would be much better to do a topic dedicated to all the garbage you had to watch while in school. Bad movies, bad videos, and anything else you can think of.
I have mentioned this before in another thread but when I was in Kindergarten there would be these days where they would bring all three kindergarten classes together in the multipurpose room and they would play a movie. One day they decided to do this but rather than a movie or cartoons they had the genius idea to show the previous night's PTA meeting. It was not a typical PTA meeting as there were a couple of skits along the way, but the thought that a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds would care in any way about the PTA meeting is disturbing.
When I was in seventh grade I had a writing class and one of the things we had to do was give our views on the death penalty and whether we thought it was right or wrong. Now this actually sounds like a good idea for a topic if you want to get people's minds going. However as part of the assignment we had to sit though one of those videos where someone is about to be executed and is trying to convince others not to make the same mistakes he did. I missed the last part of the video but apparently it ended with a re-enactment of his execution and showed a re-creation of someone who had just been put in the electric chair. I guess the one saving grace was they did not actually use a real photo of him as his execution was one of those that went wrong.
My second grade teacher had a three year old daughter and sometimes when it was raining she would play one of her videos. Problem was there was quite a few things that were more for pre-schoolers than second graders. Probably the most boring one was Zoobelee Zoo. There were two episodes (which pretty much had the same plot actually) and both were equally as bad.
Sing along videos-Now honestly I never had a problem with them except we never were allowed to you know actually sing along with them.

During my second year of primary school all the kids in my year were forced to watch a anti child abuse video that was hosted by Rolf Harris.
Looking back its a terrible video but for other obvious reasons.

In English year 7 the class had to read a book called 'On Loan' by shitidontrememberitwas21yearsago a book with an uplifting story (it was about an adopted Japanese girl meeting her father for the first time) but it was bloody boring as shit... I mean she does not fight any robots or anything.
Anyway after the book was read the teacher thought we should watch the film .... One of those made for school movies you only ever see at school. Just as boring as the book. I mean she learns her father is coming, she meets the father, they get to know each other, and he leaves... With no conflict. That's it, it's just a family member comes to visit and they do stuff. No arguments, no "why did you leave me daddy?!", no karate battles, no teaming up to battle a giant cuttlefish in the heart of Sydney... Nothing!

Driver's Ed class horror videos. Those with explicit footage of mutilated bodies on actual crash sites while a voice-over mocks the victims that the US apparently have?

The BBC kids educational programmes of the 80's were proper crap. we had to watch one about a girl who lived in London but for the summer holidays went down to Dartmoor and saved Badger's whilst learning to read. (Badger Girl) Then there was one about a fat little kid who raced pigeons and inspector morse's mate Lewis was his dad and he stumbled onto some plot to steal money from a race or something (geordie racer) and then there was the acid trip/bad dream of someone in the children's department called Through the Dragons Eye. 3 kids get sucked into a painting on the wall of a school playground and have a very cheap 80's style magical adventure with Dragons and such.
All these programmes had break's in the middle so you could learn to write words or spell ( as you can tell the spelling/grammer lessons never really stuck with me) and also use the "Magic E" properly, and were all presented by (as was tradition at the time) a crap looking robot with man hands.

In Jr High we had to watch a sex ed video from the freaking 70's man. I remember all the characters having fro haircuts and a kid asking a zoo keeper about his hoo ha. Even the teacher thought it was stupid and outright said he didn't want to play it but the curriculum made him.

It seems that for one day a week through my junior year in high school, we would watch Shrek in our home economics class. Not a bad movie at all, but by the fourth time seeing it I got so bored with it I haven't seen a Shrek movie since.

I liked Channel One News.
Without getting into politics I can safely say it did in ten minutes much better than the real news networks.

Highschool and college football are very big in Texas, and I wonder if that is why we had to watch it so goddamn much.

In sex ed there was a 30 minute filmstrip (yes, not a video, filmstrip) that showed nothing but horrible sores and wounds from herpes and shit like that. it talked about people committing suicide because Syphilis made them crazy. By the time it was over the film basically told you "sex will kill you, and if it doesn't you'll commit suicide from the pain and shame".
Now imagine a room full of 4th graders watching rotten penises and masses of leaking wounds that were supposedly vaginas. If anybody cried/laughed/made a sound they stopped the filmstrip, rewound it like 10 seconds and restarted because "This is the most important film you'll see in your life."
For the record, our teacher was a stereotypical 50 year old hag that might as well have been the stereotype for Ms Chocksondick in Southpark. I'm kinda shocked we all didn't end up being psychopaths.... or DID WE?!?!?!?

I liked Channel One News. Without getting into politics I can safely say it did in ten minutes much better than the real news networks. Though I often slept through it, I enjoyed Channel 1. I remember a year-end montage of news events one year set to Aerosmith's "Dream On" which sticks with me even today. When I was watching (mid to late '90s) Anderson Cooper and Lisa Ling were on there.

I can't remember any stuff that was terrible but I'll tell you this much, the Magic Key was the **** back in primary school. You put that on and the whole room would cheer.

And if God hadn't made it unbelievably fun the human race would have died out centuries ago."
