What's the big deal about these Games Animes which have been coming out lately (Yu-gi-ho is the only name I remember, but I'm pretty sure it's not the only one. Another one about racing cars)?
I mean, the cartoon is basically a plug for the Cards, and the few episodes I overheard are promoting the card game, "translating" the gameplay into on screen "action". If we can call "I play X, you lose 1000 points!" action.
I was wondering... what's the point of that, besides luring kids into shelling out money for the cards?
I know many cartoons/animes had their own toys line, but it was a consequence of the popularity, nearly a by-product. Now the cartoons are made to promote the products, and not the other way around.
How is it possible getting hooked to a not-so-subtle commercial, disguised as a cartoon?

Weren't He-man and Transformers made just to sell toys? Yes, they also sold toys, but the episodes weren't about characters playing with He-Man action figures... Both series had a story going on, not just some kind of tournament to show how the card game works.

An episode of Transformers that showed you how to fold them without snapping an arm off would have been good though.

I was wondering... what's the point of that, besides luring kids into shelling out money for the cards? I think that's pretty much it. In fact, there was a great episode of Everybody Loves Raymond about this whole "anime cards brainwashing kids" crap. And it was funny as all hell.

How is it possible getting hooked to a not-so-subtle commercial, disguised as a cartoon? One word: Pokemon. The card game especially was addictive.
