Monday, June 12, 2006 By Michael A. Fuoco, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was injured when his motorcycle was involved in a crash on the 10th Street Bridge today.
Roethlisberger was injured shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the Second Avenue side of the bridge near the Armstrong Tunnel.
Steelers' spokesman David Lockett confirmed Roethlisberger was involved and is being treated at Mercy Hospital.
An eyewitness said she saw a motorcycle headed outbound on Second Avenue as a car was coming inbound. The car made a left turn toward the bridge in front of the cyclist. The motorcycle hit the car and the operator flew into the windshield and then hit the ground.
The witness said she went to the aid of the motorcyclist and asked his name. He said it was "Ben" and tried to get up, but she told him to stay still.
The victim was bleeding heavily from a head injury.

I hope he's OK too, but anyone who rides a donorcycle with no helmet is as dumb as you can be.

I meant yes from a rival fan perspective, not an "I wish death on him" perspective. I knew I'd get called on it, and I was about to modify it.
Oh and I should probably read the article first....

I hope he's OK too, but anyone who rides a donorcycle with no helmet is as dumb as you can be. I agree with that although I hope he's ok. Espn's John Clayton says early indications show no life-threating injuries thank god.

I hope he's OK too, but anyone who rides a donorcycle with no helmet is as dumb as you can be. Agreed. Some people never learn. But for "Big Ben," this is particularly stupid, especially considering his career and what happened to Kellan Winslow a couple years back.

Ben also said 'May 19th' to Kane on several occasions and had unprotected sex with Lita.

HMMMMMMMMMM...... First McNair isn't McNair of 2000 and secondly I hope Ben recovers and learns a lesson.

Aren't things like Motorcycle riding against a standard clause in players contracts?

Found this on another board:
1. He hit the car 's right front, his head then hit the upper part of the windshield, was thrown across the hood and then his head hit the pavement.
2. He tried to stand up and a eyewitness told him to get back down and which time he collapsed to the ground. He was bleedly severely from the head and face. He did not know his name or what town he was in.
3. The front of the motorcycle was completely smashed in as was the right front fender and wheel well of the car. There were two places in the windshield that were smashed.
4. There appeared to be about a 2 foot skid mark on the pavement from the bike. Big Ben had the right away and the car pulled in front of him. Where it happened was under an overpass and going from sunlight to darkness may have made vision a problem. 5. KDKA News interviewed a doctor who said just becasue Big Ben was awake and talking did NOT preclude serious injury. He said due to the svere angle with which his head hit the windshield a serious neck injury would be a concern as well as blod clots in the brain.
It will probably be a couple hours before any news on his condition is reported. Tests are being run and an update will be given when available.

Aren't things like Motorcycle riding against a standard clause in players contracts? I believe so. There's usually a clause in an NFL player's contract that prohibits them from participating in certain activities which are considered "risky" to their physical helath. Motorcycle accidents are one of them.

There's usually a clause in an NFL player's contract that prohibits them from participating in certain activities which are considered "risky" to their physical helath. Motorcycle accidents are one of them. Whether motorcycle riding is against the contract has been debated for years now. The only thing that I think that they settled was that helmets were definitely required.

I heard about this about 20 minutes after it happened (my boss used to work at the Pittsburgh news station and got a phone call). Hopefully he's alright. From what I heard, there was a lot of blood, but he was responding at the scene.
